Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has become much more willing to show his work and set up equations in trig problems, which has improved his performance remarkably. Today we discussed the Law of Sines and Law of Cosines, along the way making flashcards to remind him of when to use each. We breezed through his homework assignment on those topics, then worked through several practice questions, some from a worksheet provided by his teacher and some of my own design. I now feel pretty confident about his capability on trig topics so far."
"Today the student and I continued to work on the quadratic formula. First we talked about finding your a, b, and c and plugging them into the formula for the discriminant. We talked about what it means when the discriminant is either negative, zero, or positive. We talked about the form of the formula and how we get two answers out of it. We checked the methods with similar cases that we could already solve where a=1 and either b= 0 or c=0. We talked about how the results are slightly different with a negative discriminant and complex numbers."
"In Geometry, we worked on recognizing congruent parts of congruent objects. We used congruency to find unknown side lengths and angles. We also worked on proving congruency with various congruency statements. She recently had an exam that she felt went okay. She does not have her scores yet but feels that the tutoring has helped her.
In Biology, we reviewed the various cellular organelles and their functions. She did well on her previous exam. She has another exam in 2 days. We used our time to review for her upcoming tests and quizzes.
She will continue to review for her upcoming Biology exam as well as complete her Geometry homework and is anticipating another exam soon."

"We finished the second half of his review for his geometry test on Friday. He overall has a fantastic grasp on the material; I suggest some independent practice before the test to ensure he does not make minor mistakes."
"As the semester just began, we focused heavily on the basic building blocks and concepts of geometry (calculating angles, shape formulas, etc.) that form the basis for later material. We worked on being able to visualize and break down problems, and spoke about some study techniques that she can begin utilizing. No concerns from this session!"
"We worked on completing the student's homework and practiced problems for his test retake, which covered theorems, postulates and more complicated angles. He is still making progress and getting his grades up."
"Tonight the student and I covered a review packet over all of his material so far on proportions and similarity. He remembered most of the concepts and those he needed additional prompting on mostly came back to him quickly."
"This week we began to discuss geometric proofs in detail. Topics involved include congruence schemes for triangles, similar triangles, parallel and perpendicular lines, and right angles. I helped the student complete some of the problems from his homework, which generally consisted of filling in short segments of more complete proofs. Next week we will continue to discuss the subject in more detail."
"This session was dedicated to similar triangles. The student has a test tomorrow and similar triangles is the subject being tested. She did not struggle with anything this session, she has similar triangles down. No concerns. We went over her review thoroughly and I know she will do great on this test."
"Today the student and I reviewed the last section of Unit 5 which involved using the law of cosines, law of sines, and angle properties in order to determine bearings for directions. He has a test this Friday and we will hold an additional session this Wednesday to prepare for the exam."
"The student had some work on the concepts of congruent figures, particularly on triangles. This was also a preparation for an upcoming quiz. We also did some more exercises on congruent figures, including SSS, SAS, ASA, and AAS triangles and corresponding parts of congruent triangles. He doesn't seem to have any difficulties in grasping the concept, but I did advise him to go over these sections in his spare time."
"The student and I covered the geometry basics. We reviewed concepts involving lines and angles while completing practice problems. I assigned her about 20 problems that revolves around those concepts and requires prior knowledge of algebra as well. We will review the problems then focus on parallel lines for our next session."
