Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on both pre-calculus and physics tonight. For pre-calc, the student is working with ellipses, their characteristics, and writing equations. We went through a bunch of different techniques on how to find all of the necessary information from the graph of these functions in order to write their equations. I worked through a few problems additional to her assignment as well to make sure she really picked up on the techniques. In physics, she had a lab on speakers to go over. This was an extension of what we went over on Sunday, so it was simple for her to pick up on and follow along. We then did extra physics practice problems as well, which she was able to complete with ease."
"We covered conics; specifically parabolas and ellipses. The student struggles with identifying and solving key points of those conics, vertices, foci, directrix. The student was very open about struggling with these concepts but receptive to practice problems. I recommended for studying, to understand the standard forms of the equations and identify all key variables and what they represent instead of memorizing."
"Today the student had a few questions of homework she didn't understand, mostly concerning limits. We went over the multiple methods for solving limit problems. I also showed her the power rule for derivatives. Another thing on her homework was converting polar to rectangular and rectangular to polar. Overall great session, brief and to the point. She is showing her capabilities. There is assessment testing this week."
"Today we went through her study guide for her test tomorrow. The new concepts of synthetic division, and logarithmic inequalities with a base less than one were pretty straightforward for the student, so we were able to spend the time we needed to figure out how to successfully do the hyperbola questions. Having got those down, she is in a position to do very well on her test."
"Good session with the student. We talked about linear regression, correlation, and working with bivariate data. I did a preview of the next couple of sections, and we worked through some sample problems together. Nice work!"
"The student and I met for the first time on Wednesday, and overall, the session went well. We went over some basic problems and then moved on to more difficult ones. The student seemed to understand everything that we talked through. Next time, we will cover graphing sine, cosine, and tangent functions in-depth."
