Tutoring review by Michael in Sanborn, NY
We covered the quadratic formula and factoring, and I worked to connect both of them to each other. She struggled the most at drawing connections between factoring and the quadratic formula, and how one method could be used to double check the other, but caught on through multiple examples. She was very receptive to learning, but this was new material she needed to review, and with multiple problems she was able to excel, and understand the material more clearly. I left her with recommendations to do as many of these problems as possible and practice reworking them the way we did, and practice factoring and using the quadratic formula to develop an intuitive sense of things. She's very confident about her midterm results based off of what we reviewed. I'm confident she has a better understanding of the quadratic formula and factoring methods, and with practice she will do very well.

Tutoring review by Alfred in Sanborn, NY
We covered simplifying radical expressions and adding/subtracting radical expressions. Great attitude. We went through many example problems step-by-step. The student struggled most with keeping track of constants after they had been removed from the radical: 2SQRT(8)=4SQRT(2) (correct) instead of 2SQRT(2). I laid down the rules for dealing with these problems and showed a proof of why you can do certain operations with the radicals.
