Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed some more with his test and went deeper into the relationship between the original function, the first derivative and the second derivative. We practiced graphing and will do more graphing practice tomorrow and a few related rates problems. There could be improvement made with more complex derivatives and trigonometric functions."
"Today the student surprised me with her new French test score: a 94%!! I think it really helps her to be taught a logical way to approach French grammar. The next step is to study for her finals and other exams coming up. I am having her work on making flash cards."
"1. Reviewed and solved a couple of problems involving combinations and permutations
2. Reviewed sum of finite and infinite geometric sequences and series
3. Reviewed Bernoulli's experiment and how to calculate the probability of exact outcomes
Overall, he seemed very confident in his ability to do well in his upcoming exam."

"We spent time on the Science Section of the ACT, and the Reading Section of the ACT. We went over some useful strategies to identify key topic sentences to help him on the Reading."
"Topics covered include ideal gas law, density and molar masses, gas stoichiometry, and quantum numbers. Progress achieved was a review on quantum numbers and electron configuration, and finishing problems related to the ideal gas law, while getting a better understanding of how to convert units and manipulate equations."
"We talked about what the student found challenging when she took the SAT in November. Based on this, we mainly focused on writing multiple choice and reading sections. We discussed specific grammatical principles (to be expanded on in future sessions) as well as overall testtaking strategies."
"In the first sessions, we did introductions, but the main purpose of this session was for the student to do diagnostic tests. After, I had him do a writing drill, and we discussed how he would like the sessions to be taught. I am going to have to mix a lecture and drill style, especially for the writing sessions."
"During this session, he and I worked through several verbal passages from his most recent diagnostic test. This was his first test since taking the real MCAT. We also worked through one new passage together, where I asked him to summarize the main point, viewpoint, tone, and audience for the passage before looking at the questions. Then, when looking at the question I asked him to think about what the answer might be before looking at the answer choices. This is a method I would like to see him practice at home, so he gets used to automatically considering these things before attempting to answer questions. He will bring these notes to the next session we have."
"In BS, we reviewed enzyme kinetics, the oxygenhemoglobin dissociation curve, maternal vs fetal hemoglobin, and carbonic acid buffering system.
In PS, we reviewed the righthand rule for currentcarrying wires.
Keep up the practice exams, and make sure to not only review the answers to specific questions but also to other similar questions.
Between now and our next session, definitely let me know if you have any questions/concerns. Keep me posted with your exam scores if possible.
You're almost there!"
"The student and I first restructured her content review schedule so that she would have a chance to go over all of the topics before her second practice test. We decided to maintain that she take her first practice test tomorrow. She then had a few science questions regarding carbohydrates and fluids and solids. Then she completed 3 practice verbal passages after we together summarized all of the useful strategies that we had discussed in the past month. We reviewed these passages and then talked about her first practice exam tomorrow."
"Today the student and I reviewed capacitors and then went in depth on hormones. We covered the hormones of the anterior pituitary, posterior pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, and pancreas. It was a fun session."
"The student and I talked concepts, basic math required for the assessment test, created basic organizational system going forward, talked about weekly expectations, discussed medical school admissions timeline. Student wants to take assessment test before format changes, but has not taken physics II yet. We will try to deal with this throughout our sessions"
