Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I worked with the student mostly today on her geometry homework covering probability. We made tree maps and probability area models for word problems involving blood type and coin tosses. Additionally, we reviewed some of her chemistry homework. There were some typos involving acid-base stoichiometry that we resolved successfully."
"The student and I continued our work with trapezoids and parallel lines, but we also tried proving some theorems relating to the topic, which proved a little challenging. However, by the end of the meeting we had made a good deal of progress and she had completed her assignment. The student continues to raise her grades in math, and hopefully her recently completed grading period will reflect that."
"Today we went over the student's review packet for Geometry. We worked primarily on special right triangles."
"We worked through two very challenging problems today. The student found the length of time necessary to solve them frustrating, but she never gave up, and we eventually arrived at answers for both of them. Although she may have trouble seeing it as of now, this was very good practice for when she'll face many more such problems in Calculus and College Mathematics."
"Yesterday we went through the beginning of the next chapter on finding the areas of various composite shapes. The student has a good grasp of the concepts and just needs to practice solving problems to understand the formulas and definitions. She said her last test was difficult for her and her classmates so we will review that material in future sessions. She brings a good attitude towards the work and seems to really want to improve, which is great for a tutor."
"This was our first session. We reviewed past test and homework questions on solids and angles in parallel lines. We reviewed the definition of lateral area and worked through a problem finding the lateral area of a pyramid. We also practiced finding the apothem of a pentagon and discussed how to extend the method to other shapes. Finally we worked through a test question that he had trouble with on finding related angles with parallel lines."
