Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued working on physics. We went on to electric fields and how they are shown and calculated.
We finished off the session going over variation in algebra 2."

"In preparation for tomorrow's assessment test, we reviewed a practice exam that I had assigned to her, and went over her fraction/decimal equivalent flashcards. She demonstrated significant improvement in memorization of these equivalents. I encouraged her to read carefully and meticulously check her work on the exam tomorrow."
"We discussed what the student thought about the official ACT she took the week before and then completed a math lesson covering arithmetic and algebra. She will do the remaining practice questions as homework for the next lesson."
"The student and I began the session by talking about days of the week. She knows them all well by rote, so today we practiced writing them. Then we practiced some more sight words, with which she's continuing to do great. We then worked on math using dominoes; she is doing a GREAT job! The practice is evident: She is able to state immediately (or figure out quickly) sums of any two numbers 06 (up to 6+6)! We finished our session with a review of months/reading a calendar. This is a trickier skill that we'll practice again next week."
"We finished reviewing math concepts that would be tested on the ACT. I helped him make a "breakdown" sheet of all the formulas and other information that he should read over and familiarize himself with before the exam. We reviewed general test taking strategies. I answered any of his questions about the test. This was our last scheduled session. He will be taking the ACT this Saturday."
"In today's session we covered elements that were needed in a personal statement. We went over the things that are needed to successfully apply into a university. We also discussed general things such as when to retake the SAT exam and what to expect in college. We ended the session after having brainstormed some ideas and writing up an introductory paragraph of the personal statement."
"Today we worked on various practice questions. We reviewed math fundamentals, working with fractions, percents, and ratios. We discussed strategies for the synonyms section, and he worked on many questions. I want to expose him to as many words as possible before the test. This way, he can better eliminate choices and decode unknown words. We worked on root words and how to use them to his advantage. I also gave him some practice reading comprehension sections. He wanted to review multiplying a threedigit number by a threedigit number, so we discussed that and worked on some problems."
"The student began by telling me that she was really proud of her grade on her math test last week. I was so excited for her! She really knew the concepts and worked hard to practice them. Then we worked on her math homework, which was over combining like terms. She flew through it and did every problem correctly, which was a big confidence booster for her. Then we studied for her genetics test this week. We went over her "quickie quizzes". It seemed like she knew the concepts. We went through processes like mitosis and protein synthesis again in detail until she could draw them for me and explain what was happening in the picture. I also quizzed her over her study guide and Punnett squares questions. I told her that the only thing left for her to really focus on was memorizing the definitions her teacher gave her in order to ace this test."
"Today we worked on Lesson Five: Choose Courses in the Chinese textbook. We went over the new vocabulary in the lesson which has a total of 42 new words and phrases! We practiced on talking about choosing courses in college and how to say one's major, department, and school in Chinese."
"Today, the student and I began by reviewing the grammar edits I made to his paper. We adjusted most, but stopped early so that we could ensure enough time for geometry. We then went through his geometry homework: finding the lateral and surface areas of various 3D shapes. He struggled a bit initially, but once the formulas became more clear in his mind, he began working much more quickly and without mistakes."
"The student practiced inequalities of polynomials, dividing decimals, and solving for x using fractions as prep for his test. He also practiced organizing math fact and comprehension of math word problems."
"Today the student had more Biology homework, this time on the specific class of bony fish, Osteichthyes. This class includes the common fish that we eat such as salmon and flounder. I helped him read through his assigned reading and answer the questions that went along with it."
