Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over pretty much all the chemistry. The student has done a good job this year and as long as he goes over some practice problems from what he has learned he should do well on his final exam. I have enjoyed working with him this semester and hope to be in touch this fall!"
"We covered electron dot diagrams, valence electrons, and electron configuration. We also discussed vocabulary words for the student's upcoming quiz. We have scheduled another session for Wednesday 9/8 at 5 pm. "
"The student and I worked practice problems for her upcoming math test. The main topics covered were integration by parts and using integration in word problems. The student worked through many review problems and we discuss any problem areas/areas of concern before the test."
"We went over range, domain, and how to solve a few easy things from the first chapter. We mostly concentrated on Chapter 3.8 and did some of the homework problems. She seemed to understand the material better."
"The student and I worked on analyzing rock strata and figuring out which geological events may have taken place. I explained to her the definition of uniformity and non-conformity with respect to the layers of rock found on Earth. We concluded the session by working through several assessment-like questions. The student felt confident about using the information in her assessment-packet to answer the questions."
"The student and I continued working on the ISEE practice test, particularly focusing on the quantitative reasoning section (math). We worked out practice problems and reviewed concepts such as adding/simplifying fractions, reading graphs, and probability. She will review improper fractions for homework this week. We plan to meet next on Thursday."
"Student 1 and I worked on solving inequalities. Her homework included equations and word problems. We first went over the types of problems she had the most problems with and she solved the rest of the problems independently. There were a few corrections that were easily fixable. I helped her set up the word problems and she was able to solve them from there. Student 2 and I worked on geometric proofs. We reviewed her homework and discussed the process behind the order of the steps. By the end, she had a better understanding of the proofs. We also reviewed a previous test about solving angles. She was able to identify her mistakes in most of the problems and I helped her through the rest."
"We reviewed the missed answers to his practice test - he's improved a great deal and really needs to focus mainly on ensuring his math is absolutely correct (checking calculator problems, etc.)."
"We dealt with properties of circles. We reviewed how to obtain segment lengths inside of a circle, using intersecting chords. I introduced how to find the length of arcs and how to obtain the area of circle sectors, as that was the next unit that would be studied in his class. We also looked over his final exam study guide and will work on it during the next session."
"Finished translating passage started last session, again pausing to identify and discuss subjunctive constructions of various types; translated a number of short sentences into Latin involving indirect commands and substantive result clauses."
"Today, I gave the student quick lessons about binomial and normal distributions before we jumped into a 34-question homework assignment dealing with both distributions. Thankfully, the whole assignment was completed and she scored 100%!"
"We reviewed and completed a lab exercise on the nature of variables that effect rates of photosynthesis. We also completed additional assignments on cellular respiration, glycolysis, the Calvin Cycle, Krebs Cycle and ETC. We outlined a plan for further completion of quiz questions independently and for joint completion of two additional lab activities/journals."
