Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, the student and I worked on solving systems of equations by matrices by three methods: Gaussian elimination, inverse matrices, and Kramer's rule. We reviewed the main steps for solving systems of equations in these three ways, and then we both practiced each way at least twice. She just needed a little guidance and confirmation that she was doing things correctly, and at the end of the session she seemed to have a very good grasp of the problems and did not need help at all, except to check her work."
"The session centered on the student's pre-calculus course. We reviewed section 6.5 of the pre-calculus text, which covered complex numbers, their representations, operations, and roots along with de Moivre's theorem. After completing many of his homework problems, he glanced at future work with some direction. Five flashcards were created to help him with future study, and he clearly delineated his future goals for the course. He wants to understand everything thoroughly. He has a quiz this Friday. This student has a clear sense of what is so far misunderstood, and is eager to learn the proper methods and calculations, which he absorbs very quickly."
"We reviewed section 5.3; Sum and difference of trigonometric identities. In addition, we went over parts of section 5.4 and its corresponding homework; double angle identities and its application, problems #7 - #15. The student understands the basics of the material very well and is very competent with beginner level problems."
"We worked on the composition of functions, going through all of his homework related to such. He did very well on it, great attitude, fun to work with, and a good learner. We planned to aim to work on some of the trig from last semester at future sessions."
"We reviewed several logarithmic/exponential equation problems where the student demonstrated her understanding of each process. We also went through the entirety of her notes and worksheets related to exponential modeling; she felt very comfortable with the problem types, and she was able to quickly understand any missteps along the way. I recommended that she attempt to do as many problems from her review sheet again in order to solidify her comprehension."
"For today's lesson, we went into simple and compound interest (yearly, monthly, continuously). We also worked a bit more in Microsoft Access dealing with adding a chart/graph from a query and creating a new field based on set parameters."
"We covered the homework exercises and did some review problems. The student seems to grasp the concepts. As he matures in math, I expect him to improve."
"The student and I began reviewing for his final, working on problems from a review packet covering parabolic equations, transformations of parabolas, vertex form of the parabolic equation, domain and range, intervals and rational functions."
"The student and I covered the foundations of the unit circle and degree/radian conversions in preparation for her exam that will be held on Tuesday. We will meet again tomorrow evening to complete our review of the material."
"Reviewed previous session's materials: exponential modeling, angle conversions between radians and degrees, arc length, terminal and initial sides, coterminal angles and complementary and supplementary angles."
"Worked with the student on catching up in her Pre-Calculus class. Went over Exponent and Log functions. Extensively went over transitioning exponents to log form and back, and solving for a variable in continuous compound problems."
"We went over her Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 test. I think she is getting more comfortable. We worked on some problems she had trouble with."
