Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Math review of multiple-choice practice problems HW; review of student-produced responses (sample questions and practice questions); timed math section from Practice Test 2 plus answers; created study schedule of 1 timed section daily, plus at least 3 more practice tests, and in-book writing exercises."
"We worked on anti derivatives today. The student seemed to get it a lot more intuitively than some of the other topics. He worked through problems very carefully and did a really good job of showing his work. The anti derivatives also gave us the opportunity to practice some of the rules with fractions and exponents that give him trouble. He was doing problems pretty independently by the end of today's session."
"The first session with the student went really well. We did some of the reading and a bit of math. She is a very strong reader."
"Today's lesson continued with radical expressions and their simplification. We covered the entire homework assignment and the student's teacher is nice enough to provide solutions online. After checking the homework we saw a 100% score and since we finished early, some organizational strategies were discussed. "
"The student got her algebra test back and did very well. Furthermore, her chemistry teacher gave her a few points back on her test. However, since algebra is looking pretty solid right now, we focused on chapter 9 of chemistry. I think she has it all down, so tonight we'll start looking at chapter 10."
"The student and I began with some vocabulary, along with a short review of affirmative vs. negative words. After that, I had him practice conjugating -er and -ir verbs, which went very well; he's shown great improvement with his spelling in Spanish. Moreover, we began practicing with reflexive verbs, along with conjugation. He impressively grasped the concept and excelled at the verb conjugation and reflexive pronoun placement. We ended the session with the reflexive topic, and our time spent today went really well; we reviewed old topics and got through an impressive amount of new grammar skills."
"During this session, we spent a lot of time working on dates and times. Then we continued to review verbs, possessives, and vocabulary. We also did a lot of listening activities this time. I had the student download a free app to help learn Spanish. I have assigned her 2 worksheets and online practice for over the long weekend. I did not have any concerns, it feels like she is doing great. We will keep working, and hopefully there will be enough improvement that she will begin talking and feeling comfortable soon."
"The student understands the grammar presented to him but needs to strengthen his vocabulary. Therefore, I brought an intermediate level reading exercise that we used to strengthen vocabulary, comprehension, and grammar. I left him with a list of words to memorize and asked him to finish translating the reading for the next session."
"Today we covered more on preterito vs. imperfecto. She wrote two paragraphs, on each of the tenses, and she has a more clear understanding on when to use them. We will do more practice next time so she can become more proficient. We also practiced on a few exercises from her textbook, but she will finish that as extra practice. I also gave her a worksheet to practice on, and we will review it next time that we meet. Over all she's doing very well."
"-Reviewed DOPs, IOPs and Double Object Pronouns -Reviewed preterite and irregular preterite -Worked on vocabulary (verbs) -Homework is 3 exercises in the review packet that I made for him -Need to continue practicing preterite"
"The student and I covered how to shift functions on a graph. Moving a function horizontally or vertically, also stretching and compressing functions. We are still working on domain and range of functions. The student and I then worked on graphing circles and completing the square. The student seems really confident in calculating midpoint and distance between two point, she has the formula memorized. The student is also doing well with graphing and shifting functions. Her first exam is coming up so we will continue to practice domain and range, also shifting functions without help."
"We had a wonderful session that included going over a quiz that the student received for pre-algebra and evaluating expressions. After going over the quiz, we focused on dividing decimals and fractions."
