"The student and I cleared up some confusions about her lesson from school today. She seemed much more confident by the end of the session. She also had some great notes for any upcoming tests or quizzes."
"We reviewed translations and reflections from previous week's test. We reviewed rationalizing radicals in the denominators of fractions and rotational and reflective symmetry. We discussed the difference between 2d and 3d symmetry, and practiced finding order and magnitude of symmetry for many examples. We looked ahead into the chapter review to discuss previous sections."
"We reviewed geometric mean and similar triangles for the student's requiz. Remember to set up the problem before you solve (i.e. physically write out longside/ hypotenuse). Make sure to check your work. That means going back and redoing the whole problem."
"For this session we discussed the various transformations to a pre-image. This included translation, rotation, reflection, and glide reflection. We also talked about isometry and congruence and how they're related. The student is doing very well with these ideas, relying on her ability to visualize the various transformations in order to pick out which one is happening."
"Today, we discussed a math project about functions. First, the student had to plot points and connect those points, which formed an apple. This apple was the "parent function." Then, he had to plot points from the "transform function." He plotted this transform function, and it turned out to be a straight line that cut the apple in two. He then had to explain why the parent function wasn't a function and why the transform function was. He also had to identify the domain and range for both drawings. To finish the project, he had to define what a function is and how to identify one."
"We focused on line segments intersecting parallel lines and the relationship of the angles formed. We also worked on similar and congruent triangles and the relationship between them. A new topic was flowchart proofs for congruent and similar triangles. The student is doing a good job keeping up with concepts already learned and is fairly adept at comprehending new ones. Continued practice will be helpful to him. It would be helpful to know about his next assignment before our next session on Wednesday."
