Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I focused on Math and Science for our session. She did well on math. She definitely improved from the first math section we completed together. She will continue preparing for the ACT test this weekend!"
"Today we did a lot of practice using the new strategies we covered last session. His abilities at interpreting an author's tone have improved a bit. I left him with a few extra problems, deliberately using the methods we are trying to perfect. The objective is for these deliberate strategies to become second nature for him by the time he is taking his practice PSAT and beyond. No concerns, he is a hard worker and is already fairly good at the new strategy, which is impressive."
"She took a couple practice tests. We then did several science passages together. Fortunately her math score has greatly improved, which we worked on the most."
"We reviewed a reading test and took practice reading and writing sections. His performance on the writing section showed notable improvement. For practice, I suggested a reading practice section. We will be focusing more on reading and math going forward."
"Today's session was the last session prior to her ACT test date. It was spent brushing up on timing (questions-per-minute) in the math component. We also took a look at the essay I assigned for her last time. She lacked confidence in the essay, but it proved to be written very well. Finally, we compiled a list of formulas that she is expected to know for the test. She expressed to me that she feels confident and I'm glad I could keep her as calm as possible."
"Today we were able to cover all sections. He is doing very well in the writing section so we are going to focus a bit more on reading moving forward. He is also very strong in math. We will continue to look for more creative ways to solve problems."
"We covered Passage-Based Reading and Sentence Completion strategies. We did SC and PBR flashcards via the Dashboard, and I asked the student to do 20 minutes of SC and or PBR problems a day until our next tutoring session."
"The student and I reviewed some practice tests from the Learning Tools. The student is doing well with reading comprehension and her ability to read and decode the meaning in passages is really improving. She wants to focus mainly on reading comprehension and vocabulary before her exam as she already feels confident in math. The student's test is on October 4."
"The student and I continued reviewing ACT Math problems from his workbook. The student had completed some problems on his own, and had answered them all correctly. I am very pleased with his progress."
"The student completed a full Math test today and scored a 27. We thoroughly reviewed all of the questions that he answered. Among the concepts we reviewed were period of trig functions, similar triangles, number line problems, and cylinders. The student and I will meet again on Friday to simulate another test prior to his test on Saturday."
"The student and I discussed her previous efforts in taking the assessment and how the experience differed from the classroom. We practiced a series of critical reading questions together before the student attempted some on her own. Using a few of the strategies we talked about, she showed marked improvement from the beginning to the end of the session. We discussed some practice she could do before the next session at the end of our session."
"The student and I met once more to practice more ACT Math together. Her biggest weakness seemed to be problems which required twists on the usual presentations of familiar concepts. My explanations of these appeared to help."
