Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student and I reviewed the properties of log functions and she did her homework problems from the book. We practiced simplifying log expressions, changing log equations into exponential equations, changing exponential equations into log equations, and graphing log functions using the parent function and translations. Then, we reviewed the two general functions for exponential equations."
"We reviewed yesterday's lesson on asymptotes - specifically why certain values are not asymptotes when there is a common factor in the numerator/denominator. We also covered the next lesson, which she did very well with. We finished the last 1/2 hour reviewing all of chapter 3. She will be taking the quiz on this chapter this week."
"I had the student do new problems covering logarithmic functions and other topics from her most recent chapter. I then reviewed the kinematic equations with her from physics and advised her on her most recent physics homework."
"We went through a few sections of her Algebra text book on synthetic division and finding zeros. We then talked about her last Physics assignment and how to break vectors into x and y components. Once we went through the process together, it made more sense to her."
"The student's test is Wednesday. We continued to review for it, and we started by determining the equation of a trig function given the graph. We also graphed functions, did operations on functions and looked at their domain. We went over finding the period, amplitude and transformations of trig functions."
"The student did practice problems and reviewed how to devise exact values for trig functions. We reviewed converting from degrees to radian, and how to determine the reference angle. We also solved problems that focused on translations of parent graphs."
"The main homework assignment involved graphing rational functions by determining the vertical asymptotes, horizontal asymptotes, x- and y-intercepts. The student was able to do basic-level problems."
"We went over geometric sequences. The student had a little trouble distinguishing between identifying future terms and sums of terms. I reviewed both formulas with him and identified their components. We went over multiple examples of both scenarios to cement the concepts."
"During this session, we covered classwork on periodic functions, and sines and cosines. We talked about the properties of periodic functions, including period and amplitude. We also reviewed the unit circle and worked on a variety of problems to develop skills for predicting the behavior of sine and cosine functions."
"The student and I met from 5:30 - 7:00. We worked from her text book, Chap 2: Polynomial, Power, and Rational Functions. Sections covered were Linear and Quadratic Functions and Modeling, then Power Functions with Modeling, then Polynomial Functions of Higher Degree with Modeling. The student reported that the ACT test she took last Saturday went well and that she was hopeful that it would show up in her results. In particular, she said she finished the Math section for the first time."
"Yesterday we went over the unit circle, how to use it, and problems that involved finding values of the six trigonometric functions. She has a quiz today which she is very prepared for. She was able to fill out the complete unit circle 100% correctly, and use it to solve all of the problems I gave her."
"We covered sections 3.3 word problems and correlations and 3.4 transformations, stretching, vertical stretching, horizontal stretching, relations, x and y intercepts and the student completed her homework questions."
