"Today we completed the student's homework, reviewed the two Level A books/strategies from the last session (he could read them on his own!), read two Level B books (focusing on the strategies of synthesizing and visualization), and continued working on the words that he didn't know from the assessments."
"The student and I started English practice problems and did Research Summaries and Conflicting Views type Science practice passages. I gave her some homework that she was supposed to time herself for, and we talked about her finding a time to do a practice test."
"The student and I met from 10:35-12:10. We reviewed the concepts from chapter 1 and 2 including domain and range of functions, limits, removable discontinuities, first derivative, second derivative, and equations of tangent lines. He will be taking his test on Wednesday."
"Today was the first time the student and I got together for College Algebra. Today we discussed how to use factoring with quadratic functions and with complex numbers. He did a very good job today. We also talked about solving quadratic equations by using different types of methods. We used completing the square, factoring to find your solution set, and by using the quadratic formula."
"We reviewed the problems in the mathematics achievement portion of the last practice test, including ways to visualize the geometric concepts. Also, we reviewed expressing word problems through equations, particularly those dealing with multiple parts, such as having to translate miles into feet before addressing how many feet a given traveler has traveled in a given amount of time. For a few minutes at the beginning and end of each session, we also practice the 500 most frequent words on the test, to continue boosting her confidence in the verbal reasoning portion of the test."
"Today we reviewed for the student's final exam using the study guide. Specifically we reviewed acids and bases, nomenclature, SN1 and SN2 reactions, H NMR, and C13 NMR. Not only did we work on the topics listed previously, but we also discussed methods for getting quick answers for this standardized test."
"Recapped and expanded the topic of light, and specifically explored its wave-particle duality, using the famous double-slit experiment. Applied this knowledge to useful applications like spectrometry, interferometry, spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction. Then switched gears and advanced ahead of the current class schedule and discussed electricity and specifically its application in circuits. Practiced finding circuit parameters (current and voltage) on circuits needing equivalent resistance. Expanded this knowledge beyond what's just in the book (resistors) to include capacitors and inductors."
"The student had read Chapter 2 and half of Chapter 3 in her nutrition book before we met. She also starred the information she thought was important. We went over the important information and she took notes over all that material. She was really focused for this session and got an incredible amount of work accomplished."
" We reviewed calculation of volumes by integration today. We covered the disk method, washer method, and cylindrical shell method. The student picked it up quickly. We also did a brief review of integration by parts at the end, and I gave her some strategies for choosing how to separate the integration by parts for her quiz on Wednesday."
"Explained reading and writing tutoring expectations. Client picked out a book to read for his summer reading program. We will be reading his schools required book and doing activities To practice reading comprehension and writing skills. We also completed some non-fiction text and planned out an expository writing composition."
"The student did his Chinese homework, which consisted of writing characters. We then reviewed his vocabulary and practiced using the new words in sentences. He knows the words quite well, and made a lot of progress with formulating grammatically correct sentences using the new words."
"We focused on ACT math and science. In math we focused on tricky geometry problems and discussed strategies for approaching diagrams. In science we did three practice passages."
