Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we went over a practice exam and finished up essay writing. All the mistakes the student made in his exam were from minor errors. For essay writing, Harry needs to work on making a concise argument using relevant examples which he completely thinks through and illustrates in his argument."
"Today, the student and I focused more on math than we did in our previous session. I gave her multiple choice questions without the multiple choice answers at the bottom, because she often struggles with the grid-in problems more. She did decently on the problem set I gave her, and we talked through many of the problems together. Then we worked shortly on vocabulary. I will be reviewing her most recent essay in our next session and then working more heavily on vocabulary."
"We reviewed old concepts from earlier chapters. We did the review sections at the end of every chapter and looked over vocabulary because we are preparing the student for her finals in two weeks. She works fairly quickly and seems to remember older concepts so for next time I'm hoping to have worksheets for her to complete."
"The student's test was pushed to Monday so he had more time to work on the review sheet for the test. He was able to work all the problems fairly easily involving inverse trig functions, differentiation, integration, finding maxima, areas under a curve, etc."
"We reviewed numbers 1-20, the pronunciation of the alphabet, vocabulary associated with a-z, the colors, and the questions and materials in the revision portion of his textbook pertaining to family, school and the use of the verb aller and tre."
"To begin, we went over her six weeks test. We worked out each problem she struggled with on the test. Then, we practiced turning fractions into prevents as well as area and perimeter word problems. At the end of the session, we outlined an essay. I taught her about thesis statements and the five paragraph essay."
"For homework, the student wrote about her favorite holiday. As usual, she is using transition words to organize her response. Besides a few spelling errors, it was an excellent response. We then worked on the fictional story we started in the last session. She added to each section and edited any errors. She then wrote the story on white paper. Her homework was to finish the project by adding illustrations."
"Today the student and I reviewed for her upcoming chemistry exam. She had issues with ideal gas law and combination law (P,T,V,n) calculations, so we worked through a previous quiz and practice sheet that she had. She felt much more comfortable with it after doing so. We then worked through algebra."
"Discussed general study habits, got a feel for typical homework load, and spent some time discussing college classes and major choices. Spent the last bit of time working on assignments."
"In this session, I helped the student prepare for her next exam. Some of the topics we covered were; the meaning of beauty during Medieval Spain, the importance of Colon's trips to the New World, the role of indigenous in Latin America during colonial times, and how Aztecs conceived war before the Spanish empire conquered their territory."
"Reviewed research and essay on Opabinia organism. Created outline and researched journal essay on a mass extinction hypothesis. Reviewed and discussed hypothesis vs. theory and the necessary evidence to support them."
"The student and I went over and finished Endocrine physiology and started Cardiovascular. I have sent him a renal physiology study guide and am sending him an endocrine study guide soon. No new concerns from this session."
