Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session the student and I finished up going through his review packets. He demonstrated comfort and confidence with most of the material we looked at, and I anticipate he will carry this momentum into his exam."
"Today was my first session with the student. We covered solving a second order differential equation, and then focused on solving work problems. Under the work problems I made up a sled pulling problem, then a vertical spring problem and finally we solved 4 problems focused on pumping liquids out of containers."
"The student and I practiced solving exponential and logarithmic equations today. He was on top of his game, keeping up with me extremely well."
"Today we did a review worksheet from the student's algebra class. We covered factoring, graphing of absolute value equations, solving systems of equations, graphing parabolas, polynomial division, the rational root theorem, complex numbers, and a few other topics."
"The student and I started with a quiz that assessed her mastery of coordinates, plotting, and linear equations. She did well on the quiz and is picking up on the best way to approach individual problems. We then moved on to using point-slope formula to determine linear equations and determining equations from two given points."
"We worked on factoring, order of operations, and factoring special products. We reviewed simplification of fractions, exponents, and roots. We also discussed the imaginary number i. We reviewed an old test and the student's corrections. She was able to get the correct answers on problems that she had missed previously. She is now proficient at factoring."
"Today the student and I did a last minute review for the AP exam since this is our last session. We talked about parametric equations and the aspects of those which are tested. At the end, we reviewed major concepts and practiced a bit more with series."
"Today we started practice for the credit by exam test the student will be taking soon. Despite this test being designed for students above the student's current grade level, he is in a really good position. I plan on providing extra factoring practice though, as he is unfamiliar with that concept."
"The student and I studied for her test on Tuesday. We went over about 6 assignments and notes, all having to do with probability and odds. The student was absent from school on Friday, so she needed to be taught that information. Once shown how to do it correctly, she caught on quickly."
"The student was assigned a review for his chapter on quadratic equations. Since this was a comprehensive review, we spent time going over the quadratic equation, radical properties, imaginary numbers, and common polynomial denominators. After quick review for different sections he successfully worked through the review exercises and displayed his understanding of the material. Through our tutoring sessions, I was impressed by his ability to work through the problems independently even when challenging. He also is much more vocal about potential questions that may come up which shows he is moving beyond understanding the material and anticipating more complex cases."
"We went further with confidence intervals and binomial probabilities. It's rough getting started with this stuff, but the student is making progress!"
"The student and I reviewed for the AP Calculus exam he will take Wednesday morning. We focused on understanding the important of the fundamental theorem of calculus and how it will be applied in the free response questions. We also worked many practice multiple choice questions, which covered most of the topics that will be on the actual exam."
