Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In the last session, we started reviewing unit 2 review with the student regarding factorization of polynomials. She had some issues with the discrimination of the polynomials at the beginning but eventually was able to catch on as we did some review problems. We plan to complete the chapter review by tomorrow. She also worked on the biology coursework. The main idea here was that we wanted her to start working independently. As we went through the coursework, she realized that she was picking up the concepts very well on her own. I think this approach will allow her to develop a strong sense of autonomy that will help her in the long run."
"During this session, homework was gone over reviewing exponentials. More review on exponentials was included in the session, as on the exam practice workbook. Homework was also given to be completed before the next session."
"We continued with an extensive algebra test that I put together for last week. He did very well and has learned a lot since our first meetings. He said his geometry exam went well and that the notecards helped."
"Focused on completion of a holiday homework packet setting up word problems as algebraic expressions. Attempted to cover homework in physics. Some required formulae she had not covered in class yet."
"During this session, we went back over equations of a line and slope intercept forms. I had her derive the slope intercept form equation given a point and a slope and also with just two points. We covered two methods in doing so, one using the point slope form equation and the other with just plugging in the x and y point as well as the slope to derive the y intercept. In every example we covered, I also asked her to graph the equation of the line, sometime asking her to graph the same line that has a different slope or y intercept. We also went over the properties of parallel and perpendicular slopes and how they relate to each other. She did excellent in solving these problems and I have definitely seen an improvement. I gave her guidance with one example, and she was able to do the rest of the problems independently."
"The student just recently took a test for the previous chapter. We choose to focus on the upcoming chapter and graphed radical functions and simplified radicals. The student was grasping the subject, and when talking to his mom we decided to focus more on studying for the upcoming final then to go over the current subject. We plan on finishing out the year together."
"The student just had her assessment test last week. I have noticed that the student seems to be understanding the recent material that we have been going over much better than before. We went over her worksheet over prime factorization, and I formulated questions for her."
"Reviewed for a math test. Focused on the student's problem areas. He works the problems quickly, and when the problems get slightly more complicated he skips additional steps. Worked through the problems and stopped to add the extra steps. He seemed to have a better grasp of how to do the problems after the session."
"The student and I reviewed for his science test as well as his science finals that are coming up in a couple weeks. We covered Forces, Newton's laws of motion and various concepts about the topic. We also went over work (energy) and Power. The session went well and he is showing great progress."
"We covered various lessons such as rationalization, simplifying complex fractions, and dividing polynomials with binomials. The student was able to grasp the concepts well after we covered his homework assignments. He initially struggled with rationalization and long division but after we went over practice problems he understood the concepts fairly well."
"Today we went over the students old test along with the new stuff that he learned. In regards to the new stuff, he seemed to pick it up really well. It was factoring quadratics into groups and finding their roots. We practiced finding a perpendicular line that crossed at one point as well as how to understand parabolic functions and what to do with them conceptually."
"Today the student and I started with reviewing his homework over slopes, y-intercepts, and graphing. Then we went over order of operations. I believe he needs some extra practice with this, but he will get better."
