Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, we discussed the immune system as well as the digestive system. This included the anatomy, as well as the physiology of the different organs, tissues and cells. The student is doing great with the material and continues to progress. I told her to make note cards to help with vocab and concepts. Scores from lab and assignments indicate that she is doing well!"
"The student had a quiz today and so we covered all the major topics that the professor said to emphasize on. We reviewed the skull bones and sutures again. We also covered different types of joints, the structure of bone and muscle, the different landmarks on the pelvic girdle and femur, the sarcomere and the different bands, the wrist and ankle bones, and other related topics. The student was doing well. I suggested that he look at an online video for the sliding filament theory since he is a visual/auditor learner."
"In this session, we discussed aspects related to the immune system. This included the different components of the blood, such as erythrocytes, leukocytes, and thrombocytes. We discussed the clotting characteristics of platelets and how they are formed. We also talked about the different types of leukocytes there are as well as hemoglobin and its function in erythrocytes."
"Student has been struggling with anatomy. She is currently going over the nervous system. She should practice repetition of the material prior to meeting with me, in order to build a solid foundation."
"The student and I went over material from his first aid class, discussed it, and wrote notes for it. He really seems to thrive in a back and forth type of session, where he can not only ask questions, but work out the material through expounding on previous knowledge. He and I will have more work to do next week, as this week was a little slow for him. Either way I think he is making progress already."
"Today the student and I went over past study guides to see if she understood the material from past tests. These involved questions about the blood (blood pressure, cardiac output, etc.), respiration, and digestion. She seemed to understand the material when I explained it to her but had trouble putting it all together, so I helped her with that by simplifying the concepts. She has another class tomorrow where she will continue with the endocrine system, so I expect that we will set up another session soon."
"We discussed the ligaments, tendons, and muscles of the elbow and wrist regions. We covered the superficial, intermediate, and deep layers of the forearm muscles, and how to determine the origin, innervation, and arterial supply without having to necessarily commit it to memory. We also started on the posterior forearm, but only managed to finish with the superficial layer. The student is a very fast learner and followed along with new material very well. I am going to email the student the materials I used for this session. For our next session, we agreed to finish the posterior forearm, and the student said she will email me a list of material she is responsible for in regard to tests/pathology, so that we can start going into application of anatomy."
"We covered anatomy of the brain, including functional areas, external and internal structures, and cranial nerves. We also went into the endocrine system briefly. We talked about using flash cards and creating tables to identify unique features about each structure."
"Primarily what we covered today was going over the muscular system in whole. We covered muscles, where they are located, how they work, the different shapes, prime movers and more. We also went over making some note cards, which we did a few of there together. And reviewing the material in general. It is a lot of information on the slides, but it is very straightforward. It did take some extra explaining on some of the slides to make sure it was clear to her, but overall any questions she asked I could easily explain so that she understood. She is a visual learner so pictures helped a lot and showing the material on the picture. Overall, it was a great session and I plan on hearing from her later this week for any extra explanation that she needed on the material at present."
"This was our first session. We looked at neurons and action potentials primarily. I tried to impart some study strategies that could help her succeed."
"This was our first session covering anatomy because we have been focusing on biochemistry. We went over her practice tests that focused on the circulatory, lymphatic, immune, and respiratory systems, and also the heart."
"Today the student and I covered the pathway of the digestive system, the organs that constitute the digestive system, as well as the processes of the digestive system that occur in each organ. We also covered the anatomy of the head and neck, the oral cavity and nasal cavity, as well as the esophagus, and the anatomy of the sinuses. Overall the session was successful."
