Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I decided to spend a day having the student translate through a handful of passages that we looked at in earlier sessions (some months ago) since this proved to be the trickiest part on his midterm. We started with a passage from his most recent material. In translating a passage he had seen before, it was possible to see how much he had improved even in a period of weeks. I was also able to notice that he is definitely able to translate more accurately. In this first passage, we reviewed case and case usage. We were able to discuss certain words that are oftentimes confused due to their similarity, and how to use verb identification to our advantage when trying to locate a subject. The next two passages we worked through were from earlier in the text, but still allowed us to review some important grammatical constructions such as identifying 3rd declension nouns. I will be meeting with the student on Monday and Thursday this week and we will continue to translate, and will also be reviewing declensions, conjugations, and commonly used grammar from the second half of the year."
"Today the student and I covered chapter two out of Oxford's Latin series. We covered new vocab and new readings. I continually emphasize to subject and verb agreement. The student understands the concepts on face value. He understands what to do because they are the rules rather than because it makes sense. He is getting better. I left him with homework new vocabulary."
"Today, we progressed in the student's to Chapter 9, covering demonstrative pronouns/adjectives and other special -ius adjectives. We also spent a considerable amount of time translating several passages. The sight-translations went very well, so keep up the good work!"
