Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Last session before Saturday's test. Hard math, including geometry and functions, long passages, paired passages, improving paragraphs. She is going to do very well on her test Saturday, I think. She has certainly studied very hard for it."
"We practiced through math and reading sections, ensuring comfort with the appropriate strategy (plugging in; pointing to direct support). The student was able to utilize these strategies on a variety of problems. She also became more comfortable with the reading section. I recommended that she start heavily practicing sections on her own before the upcoming test."
"During today's session, the student worked on two critical reading sections and an essay. Because he is performing very strongly on the verbal sections overall, I wanted to tailor our last couple of sessions toward testing his vocabulary. I chose two rather difficult critical reading sections in which the sentence completion questions were more challenging than they are usually. He answered three questions incorrectly over both sections. The words were definitely challenging, but he could have answered them correctly had he eliminated other answer choices using cognates. He did very well on the passage-based reading questions, only missing a couple over both sections. On the essay, which I would have given a 4, he used rather tangential examples. The assignment required that he present a position to the question of whether or not we need adversity to discover who we truly are. A point that I have made to him is to watch his use of pronouns and antecedents. In addition to taking a diagnostic today, I have asked him to keep brushing up on his vocabulary prior to our last session together tomorrow."
