Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we reviewed problems for her up coming test. This included if then statements and finding angles in a picture. Also we reviewed mid-segments, mediums, and bisectors of triangles. We used theorems such as AAS and SAS to answer questions. We also answered questions regarding congruency of triangles. The student seemed like she understood the material very well."
"The student worked on his Algebra 1 midterm review in preparation for his exam on the 18th. We reviewed linear functions, domain and range , determining if a point is included within a function, extrapolation, and solving inequalities. We also talked about strategies to use on word problems and how to be more organized."
"The student and I reviewed problems his teacher provided for the final examination, which will take place this Wednesday. Topics covered included writing algebraic expressions, functions, and addition/subtraction of fractions, and word problems. I left him with extra review problems that emphasize the areas he struggles to understand without prompting. We will have one more review session before his exam on Wednesday."
"We finished the student's homework on trigonometric identities. He has just been exposed to this new chapter and was a little bit rusty. He has a quiz tomorrow, and I tried to prep him the best I could; most concepts are still new to him. We have arranged to continue the tutoring during the Christmas break, too, in order to get him up to speed on some 7th grade concepts that he needs help with, and which have only now become apparent (trig identities involve lots of operation with fractions and polynomials and some of his 'holes' from the past have just come to light)."
"Pre-Algebra final prep for exam on Thursday. Topics included solving for X, Pythagorean theorem, and moving points on a graph. No scores or grades were seen but the basis for tutoring is to prepare for math final to pass course. Student most struggles with remembering the steps in order to solve for X. The student was very receptive and improved over the course of the session."
"We went over math homework which was adding fractions and mixed numbers and finding the greatest common factor. The student had a great grasp of these concepts so we moved on to reading comprehension. She and I defined vocabulary from the novel she is reading and also answered study questions based on what she read. She will read chapters 7 and 8 in order to complete the guide."
"Today was Chapter 12 review test, and the student was confident with the material we had gone over together before, but it gave us an opportunity to work through material that he was going over in class while I was out for my surgery. This covered logarithms and inverse functions. He did really well today, and our last session before his final will be tomorrow. We plan to have a longer session than usual to make sure he is prepared for the final."
"The student and I reviewed for his upcoming midterm tomorrow. We went over his review sheet and worked on a variety of problems from the year so far. We covered areas where he had questions on how to approach the problems and other weak points. We worked for about two hours."
"The student was given a Math assignment from school so we spent our session today solving those questions. The bulk of the exercise were multiplication questions. She seemed to have some difficulty multiplying big numbers so I decided to focus on how get here comfortable with doing that. We went over a few examples and she responded well. At the end of the session I assigned some practice questions to be reviewed at our next session."
"The student and I studied for her upcoming quiz on proofs using angle congruence theorems. We worked together to develop a step-by-step approach for tackling the proofs and practiced doing several, and by the end of the session she was doing proofs completely on her own. I left her with written instructions for proofs. We also reviewed the angle congruence theorems and the basic idea of what they are and how to use them."
"We looked at more problems on the review for the test on Wednesday. We talked about factoring (trinomials specifically), solving systems, performing operations on matrices, graphing parabolas, solving equations using the square-root property, solving equations using the quadratic formula. We were trying to cover as much as we could so we weren't able to spend as much time on each of the subjects as i would have liked. The student seemed to understand what I explained. When we start back up over the holidays, we won't have to cover near as much material each time as we have had to do during these first two sessions."
"Today, we reviewed the math material from last week, including multiplying and dividing fractions. We also went over the student's homework, which included greatest common factors and adding/subtracting decimals. He still needs help with subtracting decimals but showing improvement since last time. Overall, he is making great progress. Since we started, he received a 100% on his last math test and has improved his grade from a C to a B. We finished the math work a bit early today, so I also helped him with some of his language arts homework."
