Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed his trigonometry exams and discussed any questions he had. Primarily, we reviewed sketching unit triangles from given angles, calculating sine or cosine based on unit points (Cartesian points). I provided him with a cheat sheet that addressed specific trigonometric topics."
"The student had completed a long study guide prepared by the teacher for the final. We took the time to check all of her work and she had done all the problems successfully. They covered handling complicated multiplication of exponents and area calculations. She is well-prepared, and care in systematic setup of problems is helping her to feel more confident. Also, we covered some problems created by me, to mirror the types of problems in the study guide."
"Covered solving equations with multiple variables for the Monday final. The student needed to practice to gain understanding and confidence. Spiral reviews will continue in order to reinforce what he has already learned."
"I prepared the student for his Advanced Algebra exam. We worked on piece-wise functions, g(f(x)) functions, and learned how to graph parabolas and exponents. Overall a good session. He feels prepared for his math exam tomorrow. He also told me that he feels good about his chemistry exam that he took last Friday."
"This morning the student and I worked on trigonometry. I started with Pythagorean theorem, which she was already familiar with. Then we moved on to similar triangles before covering sin, cos, tan and finally their inverses. She did well with each concept and I e-mailed her additional practice problems she can work on that cover these topics."
"Today we covered sequences and series, including arithmetic and geometric sequences and series rules. We went over the three chapters that her class has covered thus far and worked through practice problems in her textbook to aid in understanding. It was a lot to cover in one session and the student knows to review the chapters more in her textbook."
"The student continues to progress well in all areas. We have begun using our established reading routine to start our sessions. This seems to help him "warm up" his comprehension skills. Today we worked on several word problems in math, as this has been a difficult area for him. I continue to have him attempt to walk me through the problem, which he was able to do today without much difficulty. We will continue to work on sequencing and using multiple math principles for the remainder of our sessions."
"Today, we did a final review of linear equations. I gave him a set of problems to do by hand to gauge how well he understood the material. He should be fine for the final. We spent the rest of the time working on his study islands for science, which we completed later in the session."
"We covered a variety of subjects to review for the final. We spent most of our time looking at square and cube root parent functions. We also briefly covered the test for even/odd functions and did a couple of examples of advanced factoring techniques including factoring by grouping and trial-error synthetic division. The student got a 93 on his last test!"
"The student received a 75 on her most recent Algebra II exam, which covered solving systems of equations by substitution and elimination as well as graphing quadratic equations. We reviewed the exam together and I reinforced the skills that we have gone over already to solve these problems. I am suggesting an online module for her to practice some basic algebra skills over the break, and I believe she will need dedicated practice on the algebra II skills to show significant improvement."
"Today we all agreed that we should focus on math. The student has her retake on Thursday, so it was important that we made sure that she had all of the material mastered for the exam. I was very pleased to see that she was able to easily apply the techniques to her new rate word problems; our intense session on that last time really seemed to have helped."
"During our session, the student and I completed online homework problems as well as her exam review sheet. We covered several topics, including solving for composite functions. She did very well during our session and I have complete confidence that she will do well on her upcoming exam."
