"Worked on finishing the last parts of the mock test and then we graded them. I showed her the grading scale and how it is used. I proofread her essay and gave her tips on it. Told her and showed her that it makes all the difference if she guesses on those last couple questions that she is leaving blank. She got a 19 composite score on the mock test (after guessing on the ones that were omitted)."
"We began this session with the student writing a timed SAT essay to be scored later by me as a baseline measure of where he is with the essay. After the essay was written, I went over a basic format that he could use for the essay and stressed to him the importance of having more than one example. We also talked about how to formulate specific examples and then to broaden them to general points that support a thesis statement. We moved on from talking about the essay to talking about the multiple choice portion of the writing SAT. I taught him two strategies for dealing with the three types of questions on the writing SAT and had him execute the strategies within practice sections. Additionally, I made a Google document of SAT strategies and tips for him to which we can both add information after sessions."
"This session went very well! We started with multiplication top-it, reviewing basic facts. We then played guess my rule, working on recognizing patterns and multiples. After this, we set up a 'store.' The store had about 8 small items, each having a price tag. He was given an amount of money, and his task was to estimate and round which items he would be able to buy with the amount of money he had. Then to check his estimate and see how much money he would have left over if any. He really seemed to enjoy this task and did very well at it!"
"The student completed timed math problems, making steady progress. She completed the ones she did not answer afterwards using the multiplication table for help. We used flash cards to review multiplication facts for 1-5 and went over tips for quick multiplying (we will continue to review at each session). We worked through two medium difficulty word problems together. I helped to organize the information given and guide her to the correct operation to use. She continues to be a pleasure to work with."
