Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I created a schedule for the week then we began studying for Algebra. We went over exponents and polynomials. I went over the core concepts of exponents rules and created practice problems for her. Then we went over problems in her text book and on her review sheet. Lastly we reviewed polynomials, specifically how to classify them and how to solve using distribution."
"The second meeting with the student was very pleasant and productive. We discussed all of the assignments she had coming up, and essentially outlined an overview of her next two weeks or so. She has been keeping up with her reminders application, which seems to be working quite well. Next, we moved on to study for subjects that have work due this week. In this regard, I am somewhat of a coach - a 'guide on the side.' We used a variety of methods to study for her Japanese, Biology, and Geometry, including online quizzes, flash cards, and other study games. We even phoned a friend of mine who is fluent in Japanese for practice!"
"The student and I covered deadlines and various writing tactics during our session. I proofread the work she'd done so far and gave her critiques, and also gave her tools she could use to plan out the essays she has left to write. She's definitely struggling with staying on deadline, avoiding the work she doesn't want to do, but I'm trying to instill in her a sense of urgency. She has a very real deadline of her trip to Europe, and she wants to be able to start her new semester when she gets back, so that makes the process a little easier. She definitely wants to do well, she's just struggling with the motivation to complete a class. I gave her the next few things she needed to do, and her deadline as our next session so I can look over them, give her tips and tricks, and she can send them in."
"We focused solely on physics during our session. He has semester exams this week, so we covered multiple topics."
"We practiced a brainstorm, and then focused on overall organization for writing and class presentation, for the student's project in English class. Homework is vocabulary review, and to practice key vocab study strategies."
"Today the student took her first science test (and got a 97%). We began to discuss the layers of the earth. Her homework is to finish taking notes on chapter 2.1 and do the discussion questions."
