Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During today's session with the student, we worked on the critical reading and multiple choice writing sections. Prior to working on the sections, we reviewed some of the questions he had answered incorrectly on the diagnostic exams he completed since our last session. Over the weekend, he did three diagnostic exams. He is hitting the 2200's, which shows progress, and answering 3 questions wrong in a section is an anomaly. We looked at one of those anomalous sections in which he answered more than a couple questions wrong, and he was challenged by questions of high difficulty. We reviewed why the correct answers were indeed correct, and, after answering his ancillary questions, we moved on to a critical reading section. He has made considerable progress with regard to the sentence completion questions and the passage-based reading questions. We subsequently worked on a writing section, and he performed equally as well. At this point, I feel very confident with his progress."
"In today's session, we reviewed a number of targeted math drills I assigned the student for homework last session. We worked on problems related to probability, divisibility, word problems, fractional and negative exponents. We also reviewed 2 practice math sections assigned for homework last week as well, focusing on geometry problems. He has been showing continued improvement in his math skills and approaching the math SAT problems strategically. I reinforced use of general strategies on problems he gets stuck on, such as backsolving, picking numbers, and drawing diagrams. We will continue to focus on the math section, as his recent practice tests show that this is the area he needs to work on the most. For next session, I have assigned him to do the math sections in practice test #8 in the SAT study guide. I also gave him a problem set of correcting writing errors related to parallelism. Our next session will be on 6/4 at 4:30 p.m."
"Went over SAT results, and plan for the next few days; talked about essay writing and a reading section. We are working on reading/writing only, not math."
