Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had finished her math homework from last session and her teacher is out, so no new homework had been assigned. She worked on her biology homework and then we briefly reviewed her work on meiosis. After, she had a scene to prepare for her Drama class, so we analyzed her character and began to work with the script."
"Yesterday the student and I completed two more sections of his geometry class. Section 1.3 dealt with looking at converse, inverse, and contrapositive statements, while section 1.4 began our introduction to proofs. He seemed to be getting the concepts pretty well, and for those that he didn't we paused, had an explanation, and continued with the lessons. He received 100% on both of the quizzes we took last night, which is really awesome. We are going to meet again Saturday morning, and I told him that I would like him to finish section 1.5 today before we meet again. He is expected to finish the first semester (6 chapters) by the end of April, and I am currently working on laying out a plan to make sure that goal is accomplished."
"During this session we worked on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing of integers. We worked on simplifying single operation as well as multiple operation expressions. We reviewed the basic rules for each operation and also order of operations. The session went well."
"The student and I worked mostly on math today. Once he is reminded how to figure out the area of a shape, he is off and running. He really is very good with this area and perimeter stuff, and I like to see that he takes joy in figuring the problems out. He is interested in this math and that is a great thing. For the most part, it comes very easily to him. He also reads well and he has definitely done a great job listening to what I have told him about sounding out words, various rules, etc. The student definitely has the smarts, and now that his confidence is in high gear, he just needs the focus."
"We reviewed to prepare the student for the state mathematics exam. The student seems to have a strong grasp of the information needed to be successful on the exam. He had a good attitude during the session. He understands how to break down word problems. I think he is prepared to do well on the exam. It was a productive session."
"This session, we went over the student's study guide for his test coming up. He did really well on the study guide and had done some of it in class. He should continue to work on prime factorization. He was motivated to learn. I tried to give breaks and also write different questions we could go through together. I left him with a geometry study guide that I created after he did one of his online assignments. He just needed some definitions for the types of triangles. I think he is doing great. He will do well on the test. He knows the concepts."
