Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered correlation regression, McNemar's test for matched pairs, contingency tables, goodness of fit test, chi square test, and one way ANOVA analysis. The student scored excellent on these assignments and I taught her several calculator tips and strategies."
"Today was focused on quadratics. We finished her assignments for class in which she had to use completing the square and the quadratic formula in order to solve the problems. She did very well at picking up the concepts and was able to finish the last couple problems without much input from me."
"For the first half of the session we worked primarily on word problems. We went over ratios, percentage, and division. For the second half of the session we worked on speed and accuracy of multiplication, division, subtraction, and addition."
"During this session, the student and I worked on a summer math skills packet for incoming 6th grade student. In this packet, the student was able to complete various multiplication and division problems with speed and accuracy. The student was able to determine the factor/multiple given various numerical clues."
"Today the student and I worked on Geometry followed by Biology. In Geometry, we worked on questions that applied basic vocabulary: Median( Segment drawn from Vertex to Midpoint), Collinear, Scalene, Isosceles, Equilateral, Altitude( As applied to Triangles), etc. We also practiced drawing diagrams. Once finished with Geometry, we studied scientific Inquiry/experimentation/Scientific method and worked on related questions. The student did very well with both subjects."
"The student and I continued to work through his workbook, spending time on adding/subtracting integers, order of operations, exponents, algebraic equations, and graphing. The student is improving, and I am excited to see how he does when back in school."
"The student's homework showed that she understood factoring by grouping. Once the student showed more solid improvement, I also added synthetic division to the mix, which she seemed to like."
"The student seems to have a good grasp on factoring quadratic equations. We moved past that to using factoring to solve quadratic equations, which he should pick up with a little more practice. We then started working on properties of radicals with the hope of moving on to using the quadratic equation in the next couple sessions."
"Quadratic formula, adding/subtracting/multiplying polynomials, factoring polynomials, finding solutions of quadratic equations by factoring."
"We went over the exam questions that the student missed when doing the practice test. We went over parallel and perpendicular lines and equations, distance equation, and equation of a circle. The student needs to memorize formulas for the exam."
"She did really well with our mini-lesson: determine multiplication or division with word problems. Benefits from reading problem out loud and asking: do I know the total amount? She rephrases the problem in her own words and explains her decision to multiply or divide. Lesson: sort word problems by division or multiplication."
"I saw a lot of improvement today! We focused on word problems and she was much more sure of herself and confident. She still has trouble with her homework when she is on her own, so I want to really push her to do more and more work without my help."
