Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we reviewed Geometry chapter 1.2 (Segment Addition Postulate) and completed her homework. I proceeded to introduce section 1.3 (Midpoint/Distance Formulas) to help her be more prepared for class this week."
"The student and I talked about the subjunctive mood, which is the upcoming information she will be learning. After this we reviewed house vocabulary words and the Usted/Ustedes commands. She had a quiz on the 22nd over that information. "
"Last session for preparation for the ACT. We were unable to get a practice test done, but we have gone over every single section and he is pretty comfortable, though he is still a little shaky on his punctuation. He also is a little nervous about the science section, so we spent today reviewing those areas."
"Gave the student his last practice test for the midterm and established that he'll probably take the midterm on Monday. We'll meet again on Sunday to really go over the material and make sure that he's very prepared."
"We went over her summer packet and I was able to correct some mistakes the student made on the problems she had already attempted. She was able to redo them on her own without any further help."
"This was the student and I's first session, and things went very well. We covered nuclear chemistry, including alpha, beta, and gamma emission equations, and neutron proton ratios with regard to the band of stability in isotopes. We reviewed the homework assignment and covered her previous chapter's test."
"Today we reviewed factoring two, three and four term polynomials with one to three variables. The student made occasional simple arithmetic errors (multiplication, +\- signs) but his factoring skills are solid now. We then looked ahead at rational equations and he learned the basics of what a domain is and how to determine a simple domain for a quotient polynomial."
"The student is improving in math quickly, and he is working harder. I am trying to help him learn by clearly writing down steps to solve a problem and taking notes so he could review later. He seems to be very prepared for the English and grammar sections of the SAT test. He will perform very well on the test."
"We started by talking a bit about the scores the student got back from her most recent ACT test, particularly the essay score. The student scored a 7, which means one grader gave her a three out of six and one grader gave her a four out of six. This is consistent with what I've been seeing from the student's writing. In an earlier session, before I had a chance to see her scores, the student had commented that she did "really well" on the essay portion of the test, so I definitely wanted to clear up any confusion about the grading. We looked at a few science problems she had missed, and then continued with math for the rest of the session, focusing on how to logically deduce a plan of action."
"Compiled research on Cyanobacteria for a visual presentation on history, fossil record, classification, social and environmental impacts. Reviewed answers for a quiz on fungi and bacterial life forms."
"Both students worked on their homework. Student 1 worked on place value and division problems. She is really improving in her confidence and attitude towards math. Student 2 worked on addition and subtraction problems."
"We spent the session going over vocabulary today. We went over strategies for the Verbal sections (synonyms and antonyms), and then I had her make note cards for word parts (prefixes, suffixes, and stems) so that it will be easier to study for. I wish her luck on the test on Saturday!"
