Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session focused exclusively on reading, decoding, and analyzing the play Fences by August Wilson. The student and the tutor covered the remaining 4 scenes of Act II. The student read each separate scene and then was asked questions by the tutor. The student was given clarification by the tutor about character development as well as motivation. The tutor offered analysis of the major characters as the play wound to it conclusion. During the next session, the student and tutor will re-cover these final acts of the play to refresh ideas and concepts."
"In this session we began by writing up a 5 paragraph essay outline. We then defined parts of speech: noun, verb, subject, direct object, indirect object, adjective, adverb, article, preposition, and conjunction. We then proceeded to go through vocabulary. We begin by writing 'guess' definitions and uses with a given vocabulary word. After we engage it, we define it as the dictionary does, lastly we use it properly in a sentence. Over time we will create three banks if vocab words: known, familiar, and unknown."
"Today, we spent the entire session studying for various tests and quizzes coming up in the next few days. We began by brushing up on an English essay, which the student will be quizzed on the following day. We then studied for the English and economics finals, both of which are next week."
