Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the first three sections of Chapter 6 in her Algebra book. I reviewed the solving systems of equations by graphing, by substituting and by elimination. After reviewing each section, I had the student do some practice problems to make sure she understood each section. We then went over her French homework, which involved reading a chapter in a book and answering questions on various worksheets."
"The student provided a book to work on ratio and proportion problems. We covered the basics of setting up and solving proportions, and applied those methods to word problems. The student showed a strong understanding of how to solve these types of problems, but she could still benefit from further practice. I gave her some practice problems to work on before our next session."
"The session began with us reviewing her chapter test from this previous week. She did better than she had previously been doing. I told her to be more careful about choosing points. After that, we reviewed parallel and perpendicular slopes. We also went through how to draw a graph and determine the range given an equation and a domain. I noticed that she was fine determining coordinates. I showed her how drawing border lines help connect those borders back to the x- and y-axis. We ended with rapid fire fraction and negative number practice. She has an upcoming unit test this week, and I think she will do much better."
"The student and I finished working on her concept map then completed an additional review packet for her exam tomorrow. She understands the concepts and how to set up problems on her own."
"The student and I dove right into the session since he had a lot of homework to make up. We started with his homework assignment on finding the least common multiple of rational and exponential expressions, and then we moved on to his homework on adding and subtracting rational expressions. For our next session, I will work with the student on finishing his remaining make-up assignments, and then, I will begin going back and reviewing previous material, especially factoring, so that he will be prepared for end-of-term exams. Overall, the student was a great student, and I am looking forward to working with him!"
"The student had a biology test the previous week, so we worked on his algebra exam review. We talked about good stress and testing habits, and how best to be prepared for exams and quizzes in the future. We finished going over about half the packet, and I let the student know he is welcome to email me with any additional questions."
"Went over questions given by the teacher from previous tests. Also gave a few problems with finding a mixed version of binomials, trinomials, and monomials in fraction form finding lowest terms."
"Yesterday, the student and I reviewed his new Spanish vocabulary. We made flash cards and we went through them three times. By the end of the session, it seemed like he knew the majority of the vocabulary words and I encouraged him to review them at least twice a day until his test. We then reviewed his math homework. We worked a little bit on combinations and then we worked on probability. We did at least one problem from each example of probability and we did some extra problems from within the assignment. He is expected to do his homework based on the review we covered."
"Today the student and I focused on factoring with the box method. After a couple of example problems, he was able to solve the problems. He understands the steps completely."
"For this session, the student and I went over some practice problems for a quiz that he needs to take this week. We went over the quadratic equation and how to solve for x using the quadratic formula. The student did a great job rearranging variables and has a good understanding of how to use the quadratic formula."
"The student and I reviewed the practice material on his school database that involved the basic concepts in Algebra. It was sort of a final review, in preparation for his final exams coming up in May. The session went well."
"In this session, the student and I went over chapter 11 to prepare for her test. This chapter was about quadratic equations and transformations. The concepts were not new to her so she was able to put them into practice quickly. She is a very fast learner. One thing she can improve upon is her mental math ability. I reminded her of the importance to take time when doing computations."
