I talked with her and discussed methods to ensure such actions don't happen again by taking additional measures to ensure a maximum raw score. She takes the test on Saturday."
"The student and I finished reviewed his practice test that he completed during our last session. We discussed strategies to effectively answer word problems. We also spent some time reviewing strategies to bubble answers, skip questions, work backwards, and how to guess. We spent a lot of time on vocabulary building exercises, especially using word roots. He will spend 20 minutes a day working on vocabulary building exercises and analogies from the online learning tools. When we meet next week he will complete some practice tests along with bubbling an answer sheet."
"We reviewed the student's algebra homework and discussed his schedule going forward; he will be sitting the SSAT test this Saturday and also plans to sit it again in December, so his parents asked me to continue working with him through to the second test. We did some time trials on math problems. This will be an area we focus on after the next test session, as I feel he can get a much better score if he can get his accuracy up on his arithmetic."
"The student and I had a productive session. She did well on reading comprehension, but she isn't quite where she wants to be. "Last session, we determined that the student is least comfortable with verbal questions on the SSAT. Therefore, I left her with prefix/suffix reading pages to review during the week. Today, we really focused the first hour on just verbal questions such as synonyms and analogies. She demonstrated her knowledge of prefixes and used this to correctly answer many questions. For the remainder of the session, we covered a mixture of reading comprehension and math. I am really focusing mostly on synonyms and analogies with her, however I do not want to completely neglect the other topics on the test. I left her with extra practice to work on (about 50 analogy questions, about 25 synonym questions, and 8 math questions). She did a great job, and I can see that this test is important to her."
"Worked on reading comprehension, verbal and math from the test prep book. Worked on identifying main idea of passage before answering questions and creating bridges for verbal analogies. The student is a hard worker and did well. I suggested she do the problem sets for math in the beginning of the test prep book. Next session, we will spend more time on math."
"The student focused on vocabulary for homework. I gave him an oral quiz, and he knew all the words. We will increase the amount of words for next session (there are so many to learn!). We moved on to synonyms, which we didn't cover last session. We looked at strategies for knowing the word and for not knowing the word. We practiced 30 or so problems. Next, we moved to analogies. We continued learning strategies, this time for either not knowing one of the stem words or for "sort of" knowing one of the stem words.
Math: We began working through the upper level math sections in the test prep book covering: ratios, percentages, change in percentages, and geometry. We made progress working through the problems. We also looked at the strategies of: using the answer choices; choosing a number (used for variables); and plugging in. We spent the remainder of time on Reading Comprehension."

"In this session, the student and I began by reviewing the math problems he completed for homework. The student did a great job on these, but in the future, he needs to do his calculations slowly and doublecheck his work whenever possible to avoid errors. After that, we began working on the verbal section. The student learned new strategies for solving synonym and analogy problems, and we practiced applying these strategies by completing practice problems together. The student seems to be picking up these strategies very quickly. For homework, the student will complete and score two exercises. In our next session, we will review the verbal section, work on the reading comprehension section, and discuss how the student can continue to prepare for the exam moving forward."
"This was my final session with this student before her exam. First, we started by discussing the exam concepts a little bit, then I had her run through one more essay prompt. She went a little darker this time, so I talked to her again about the importance of presenting herself in the best light. I also had her edit her piece a little bit before she gave it to me. After this, I had her go through a math problem set that she had done during one of our first sessions, which went much better for her. After that, we talked about the test and the timing, and I told her a little more about what to expect."
"Focused on the Verbal section of the SSAT. The student seems to have a moderate understanding of the roots and analogies, though, much more practice is needed. It is important that he remain consistent in his studying of the material. He should continue going over the roots we worked on in addition to general practice overall."
