Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed some basic algebraic manipulation first. Afterwards we covered trigonometric identities and equivalences, and practiced using them. We also covered some rules for manipulating fractions and exponents."
"Today we did math, math, and more math. The student is strong on most of the math, but the algebra word problems are tough. I think that if he works through a bunch of them, he'll begin to see how to translate word problems into equations."
"During this session, we began with a discussion of the SAT scoring system. We spent a majority of the time reviewing the material covered on the PSAT exam that the girls most recently took. We discussed the scores on each section, strategies for answering questions, overall testtaking strategies, etc. We thoroughly reviewed all questions of interest on the PSAT exam. I distributed a review packet with questions in preparation for the SAT Reading Comprehension section. We completed this packet of material together. I also assigned Practice Test #1 in the test prep book for next session. I also asked the students to write an essay response to the prompt for Practice Test #1. Excellent work! "
"Complete review of all materials covered from day 1: algebraic vs inequalities probabilities converting simple fractions to decimals to percentages discounts, markup and tax interest rate pie graph and histograms mean/median/mode/range and box and whiskers chart multiplication table, simple squares and square roots +*/ negative and positive numbers Halfway progress: good! great understanding of the material, but more importantly we have sufficiently repeated the material enough that she seems to remember the principle concepts, not just following through the motions."

"The student and I met from 1:102:45. We worked on improving his understanding of circles and parabolas before moving on to learn about ellipses and hyperbolas. I made up numerous examples with differing degrees of difficulty and he was able to work through them all. We are working to make sure that he performs well on his final exam."
"The student and I reviewed the most recent SAT she's taken. We started by going over her essay and discussing how concrete examples are more powerful than hypothetical ones. In the math sections, we reviewed important concepts such as slopeintercept form, 306090 triangles, and probability. In the reading sections, she is doing well but often secondguessing the right answer, so we talked about how not to stretch to make another answer fit. In the writing section, she reviewed a few important rules, such as introducing parallel phrases with the same preposition."
"The student and I worked on sight words and then focused on long vowels. We played a game at the end to review what we had learned and he did an excellent job and was able to recall his work. It was great to see him pick up on the lesson."
"The student was assigned a journal article that she needs to give a presentation on in class; therefore, we spent this session going over the Letters to Nature article. We went through the data, methods and findings."
"The student completed today's math homework assignment with minimal difficulty. We reviewed it, then moved on to practicing his fraction work. His practice in the workbook has made him proficient with problems beyond those distributed in class."
"We reviewed mostly the math section of the SAT, but also covered the reading and writing portions. She is taking the test this week but it seems like she has a solid understanding of the concepts for each section. I advised her to take one more practice tests before the real thing."
"We covered the student's current course work with domains and ranges of functions, and equations involving absolute values. She seemed to understand the material once we went over it."
