Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has his final tomorrow, so we spent the time going over his review. The review was comprehensive and covered the entire course. He was able to answer most of the questions on his own. He needed a little refresher on how to find asymptotes of a graph, graphing/solving for polar coordinates, logs, and series.
Overall, he did very well and I have no doubt that he can do well on the exam."

"Tonight, the student and I began reviewing for his trimester final exam, completing half of the review materials provided by his teacher. One of the early problems proved daunting, as none of the five multiplechoice answers satisfied the conditions of the problem; he promised he would speak to his teacher tomorrow about the issue. Otherwise, things went pretty smoothly. Next time we will finish the review materials."
"The student and I discussed how to graph trig functions. We focused on the sine and cosine functions. She was able to find the amplitude, period, and phase shifts given the equation of the function and then graph it. We also practiced using identity functions to simplify expressions with trig functions."
"We discussed solving logarithmic equations using the basic definition of logarithms, and we reviewed some fundamental algebra such as adding fractions and the order of operations. "
"We went over the process of photosynthesis, including the light reactions, electron transport chain, and CalvinBenson cycle. I think that she left with a firmer grasp of the photosynthesis process, as well as an idea of what might constitute test questions on the subject. We talked about how it can be helpful to make charts for cycles when studying and the importance of knowing where different reactions occur."
"First meeting with the student. We talked about his experience taking the test and then began work on the English grammar session. He didn't know many of the names of the objects or the rules so we went over all of the ones that will appear on the test. We then worked through a few examples and I left him with a practice section to do for next time."
"I worked with the student on math problems especially greatest common factor and lowest common multiple. We took a step back and reviewed some more basic problems then went back to his homework. He made progress. He basically understands the material but needs added practice."
"The student and I continued to review inequalities. I checked his homework from the previous session and we corrected some minor errors. Overall, he is developing better habits and is consistently showing that he is not making the same mistakes. We also went over a review practice test that his teacher gave out for the upcoming exam on Dec. 20th. The test will cover parallel and perpendicular lines, inequalities, converting from slope intercept form to standard form or to point slope form and vice versa. I had the student go through the practice test on his own. When he completed it, we went through and corrected any mistakes. He got one problem wrong out of the whole test, which is very encouraging. His assignment is to go over the review test again on another sheet of paper."
"We focused completely on history because the student has a test tomorrow. We made sure the study guide was complete and I quizzed him on it a couple times. We also discussed a few strategies on how to study effectively and how to approach the test. He definitely seems like he has a good handle on all the material."
"We reviewed her homework assignment covering lateral and total areas of cones and cylinders. We also reviewed the material she has been working on the past couple weeks, and I gave her practice problems covering volume and surface area. For our next session, we will review the material for her quiz to ensure she knows the formula."
"The student and I went over his review packet for his final. We made a list of things for him to look over right before his test. He had a fairly good memory of what to do with each problem, and we reviewed what he had a little trouble with. I gave him some test taking strategies and wished him luck for the upcoming final."
"The student has a test tomorrow, so we spent the session reviewing specific questions, mostly problems pulled from his textbook and previous homework assignments, chosen by him ahead of time. They included questions about the difference between the GDP deflator and CPI, calculating present and future value, and the different parts of GDP."
