Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met for final test preparation. The student is a bit worried about some of the Trig problems that her professor rushed through the last day, but feels good about all the material up until the last day."
"The student had a quiz on the material that we covered previously. We reviewed the problems he had missed. During this session, we also covered rational expressions. The student understood the general idea. We worked through a variety of different problems, and he seemed to pick up the algorithm quickly. I will continue to emphasize the importance of step-by-step practice."
"Reviewed factoring polynomials, specifically trinomial expressions. Covered special cases of squares of sums and differences, and factoring differences of squares. Performed several examples of each type for practice. Student seemed to have trouble with basic multiplication and square roots. Said he would review his multiplication tables."
"We worked on completing the second half of the practice test the student was given for their exam on Monday. Topics covered were: more equations with logarithms/exponents, exponential growth, and interest rate problems. We did more practice exponent equation problems, and will need to focus more on the exponential growth problems in our session tomorrow."
"We started off by reviewing homework problems from circles, with the more difficult ones being circle applications or conceptual questions. Afterwards we covered conic sections again today, going over parabolas in some detail. We went over their geometry, general structure, and finding solutions by factoring or quadratic equation. Concepts such as the determinant were covered as additional tools that help us solve quadratic equations. I provided her with additional quadratic problems and we will go over ellipses and hopefully hyperbolas tomorrow."
"Student needed help on a limited number of topics. Currently she is seeking reinforcement of basic trig knowledge such as the unit circle. She raised questions about how to do certain problems with an assignment. When I reviewed her assignment it became clear there are some misconceptions about which problems could be done by hand and which need a calculator. After this was made clear she wanted a review over how to do trig proofing. We went over three examples to demonstrate basics."
"Continued reviewing lesson material equations and concepts to be seen in upcoming pre calculus class. Had the student practice material to see mastery/understanding of concepts and laws. went over graphing section on inequalities and graphing equation for parabolics. Skimmed certain sections I felt he had mastery of from both practice problems and from what he has covered online."
"The student explained his course structure to me and then outlined which areas he needed most help with. We then covered the Remainder Theorem and some other basic algebraic concepts. By the end of the session the student was able to apply the Remainder Theorem and divide polynomials by binomials. The student was very enthusiastic and ready to learn and I look forward to continue working with him."
"Today we went over different types of problems with quadratics and circles. This included teaching her how to use the distance formula, midpoint formula, tangents, and intersecting lines to find the equations for circles and parabolas. She picked up on these concepts extremely quickly and when we reviewed problems in which she had to complete the square she remembered it very well."
"Covering topics for final exam. Limits, asymptotes, and general trigonometry topics. The student has been doing very well in class averaging 88 for her test grades. She hopes to take calculus in the fall."
"During our session, we completed a packet covering logarithms. We went over the product rule, quotient rule, power rule, and inverse rule. We completed examples where we expanded or combined logarithms using these rules. The final topic was solving logarithmic equations or using logs to solve exponential equations."
"Since his class is still going over review material that he has a good understanding of, we spent today's session doing more review of exponentials and logarithms."
