Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on a math section of the ACT, going through and reviewing any concepts that weren't immediately ringing a bell, such as absolute values, remainders, and trigonometric functions. We also did part of a science section."
"Since we usually work on math, this time we decided to work on reading and English sections. The student has no trouble with the English sections and generally does well on the readings. We also worked on science and writing introductions for the essay portion."
"The student and I had another good session today. We were continuing our work on the ACT English section. The first portion was spent reviewing the material we did not discuss last time: Grammar and Usage concepts. After the review, we worked on two passages for practice, where he performed very well. There is some room for improvement, particularly in making sure that he is reading the questions carefully, but overall I am very pleased with the progress he has made, and I think he is as well. I left him the rest of the second passage and another for homework, and asked him to do a Reading passage as well if he has the time."
"The student already has a great start on test prep. She's taken two of both the SAT and ACT tests and done a fall review course. We will build on this to provide her with more targeted subject tutoring for each of the sections on the ACT. We started today on Writing."
"The student and I started the session by reviewing ratios and percentages like we had covered last time. We then continued on to cover the questions that he had completed from the practice test book. I walked him through some of the problems so that I could help build up his confidence. We also spent a good bit of time going over the conceptual difference between 1, 2 ,3 dimensions and formulas regarding all 3."
"Today was our introductory session. We discussed goals and college plans, and looked over his previous test results. I did a run through of the entire test, and we worked together to come up with a game plan of what we need to focus on. We then worked through some of the science section. He's a really bright kid, and I don't think we're going to have to worry when it comes to content, so I'm really going to focus in on testing strategy. I left him some science practice, and we'll see how that goes!"
"We went over ACT English. First, we reviewed concepts in ACT English such as punctuation. Then, we went over subject-verb agreement. Next, we did a practice test in ACT English. I left the student with a section of ACT English."
"The student and I did a review of ACT grammar rules and then did several sample reading sections. We went over questions that he missed and talked about different strategies for approaching the reading passages."
"The student got his ACT scores back earlier this week. We reviewed his sequences and series math homework which he figured out pretty quickly. We moved on to studying for an English test over modernism and two short stories related to it."
"The student and I spent our session equally on the Reading and Math sections. We covered the social science and Humanities passages in the English section, which tend to be the hardest to comprehend. She had a little trouble at first but we worked through how best to focus on and interpret the passages. She did well on math, and all she really needs is more practice to refresh her brain to topics that she hasn't covered in awhile. Overall, it was a good session and I think we made some good progress."
"We focused on English and science passages. The student worked through 45 English problems. She also worked through 5 science passages. She did very well."
"- We focused mostly on the Math section. I used the session to gauge what the student's strengths and weaknesses are in terms of Math and logical thinking. - She consistently answered basic algebra questions correctly and does quite well with geometry"
