Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on reviewing geometry proofs for her test on Wednesday. She understands the concepts, but sometimes makes split decisions based on the nottoscale figures. We talked about going through each step of a proof to avoid this. We also worked through each theorem she will need for her test."
"We covered all the topics for her final review. Triangles (isosceles, equilaterals, acute, obtuse). Criteria for length of sides to make a triangle. Angle/segment/perpendicular bisectors, altitudes. Congruent triangles, and how to proof them. Mid segments of triangles and trapezoids.
She did well understanding all of the concepts. We have been reviewing them in previous sessions, and she remembers all methods well."

"We are making great headway in getting the student's makeup work completed before he goes back to school. We calculated that two more sessions and we will be done and ready to face preparing for finals. We continued working on tangents, arcs and secants with more calculations of angles and the sides of triangles intersecting circles."
"The student and I studied for her exam on Friday. She us feeling very good about her geometry knowledge and is looking ahead to the final exam!"
"Worked with exterior/interior angles, proofs of quadrilaterals, diagonals, & polygons. Monday was scheduled for a review for the test they have on Tuesday. That test will cover Chapter 7 material. He has a fair grasp of it and she has very good knowledge of it. Thursday's test is going to test proofing quadrilaterals and other shapes. They know most of the material to understand proofing the shape, but remembering all 1213 steps is difficult for them right now. We are working on that! The students were a lot of fun to work with."
"The student and I covered tangent lines as well as chords and arcs. He is showing improvement in understanding concepts and I feel that practice problems would be really helpful for him. He does really well when concepts are explained visually so I am confident in incorporating that into the lesson."
"After doing a few problems for homework, the student and I went over some fundamental things that could be on the next test. We looked at the formulas for a circle and a line; we did some loci problems, we factored second degree formulas and completed squares, we plotted circles and lines and derived formulas from the graph, and we looked at the slopes of lines to see if they were parallel or perpendicular. Not all of the fundamental geometry is sorted out in his mind, and so I want to go back over everything carefully so he can rebuild that framework and be able to solve more complicated problems."
"During our session today, the student and I worked on the writing assignment over distance and formula. He practiced using both formulas and did very well. He also had to identify points on a coordinate plane and did so without any issues."
"The student was having trouble with a few topics: rotation of a figure 90° about a fixed point, reflection of a figure about a line, and translation along a vector. I reviewed and made notes with him on these topics, both on and off the coordinate plane. When I tested his comprehension with practice problems, he seems to understand them quite smoothly after a few bumps in the beginning. He has a quiz tomorrow, so I encouraged him to continue reviewing the formulas for translations, reflections, and rotations."
"In this session we covered and practiced transformations and translations for triangles, points, lines and quadrilaterals. We then went over rotations as well. We talked a lot about the theory, and also got a lot of different practice problems in to prepare for the test. We're still waiting to hear back on how she did on her test last week, but she seems to have a really solid understanding of all the new material, which is a good sign. I foresee an A in her very near future!"
"We reviewed the student's study materials for the upcoming exam. Some of the material from early in the semester was a little challenging for him, but after a little practice he picked up on it again. It is a lot of material to cover, and he has a good study packet to practice with. I think he will do well."
"We went over her review packet for tomorrow's test on Volume, Surface Area, and Density. The student also recorded the steps for each "type" of problem. We worked through the entire study guide and additional problems. I also left her with a website to go to for practice. We focused on formulas, concepts, steps, and setting up word problems."
