Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student completed the verbal sections of the SAT and we reviewed the questions that gave him trouble. His assignment is to focus on vocab."
"We reviewed electron configurations, oxidation-reduction reactions, strong acids vs. weak acids, the pH scale, and the three main definitions of acids and bases. After completing several worksheets on these topics, we moved on to working on the subject test practice exam, and identified topics we will review next time including: polyatomic ions, and hydrocarbons."
"In this session, we focused on an overview of our goals for the tutoring, had a discussion on how things went the last time the student took the ACT, and began working through problems out loud to identify where focused attention will provide the most improvement. Specifically, we covered two Reading and Science sections in the student's ACT practice guide book. We worked through the problems out loud and discussed different approaches to the issues. We will address techniques and tips to help the student read with comprehension and to not feel nervous about the time constraints of the test. In fact, she has plenty of time to slow down, become comfortable with the passages, and then proceed to answer the questions. She will be helped most by practice with reading generally, and more practice using the techniques we reviewed on practice questions. Therefore, as extra practice, I've asked the student to spend at least 30 minutes a day reading (the format and contents are entirely up to her tastes). Additionally, I asked that she do one set of questions in Reading or Science every day, alternating between the subjects."
