Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on math and writing and science. The student is working on identifying grammar themes and interpreting math problems. Science is going consistently well."
"During our second session, the student and I reviewed the ACT English section exercises I assigned from our previous session and calculated her raw score based on the work that she did on her own. Her previous ACT English section score was 22, and her raw score based on her homework that I assigned was a 29, so she is seeing improvement already just in practicing each question type and applying strategies we discussed during our session. We started working today on timing and pacing for the English section, which we will continue to work on through assigned timed practice outside of our sessions together. We also began working on the Science section today and reviewed strategies for the charts, graphs, and figures questions that will help minimize the time spent on certain questions. This was the section that she expressed being uncomfortable with because she was unable to complete it on her last ACT, so timing and pacing for these questions will continue to be a priority in our practice. I assigned her various science section passages (5) for practice as well as two English section passages to work on until our next session on Wednesday."
"The student and I decided to continue working on the math section for this lesson. We reviewed some of the material from last time (notably geometric and arithmetic sequences) and then worked on some new questions. We discussed how to approach geometry-based problems and encountered some opportunities to use what we talked about last time in regards to calculator skills. She seems to quickly grasp the material we cover that she is originally unsure of, but it is important that she makes sure she can work problems that gave her trouble on her own."
