Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We moved onto configurations- introducing the idea of enantiomers, how to find stereocenters and determining R and S using the priority rules."
"The student and I reviewed topics in VSEPR theory, hybridization, and bonding. We discussed molecular geometry and shape, and how this differs from electron configuration."
"We reviewed the student's homework assignment and studied for a quiz involving reactions that deal with alkynes and triple bonded molecules."
"For our session, we addressed the topic of radiometric dating. In order to understand the topic, we had to do a review of logarithms and exponents. The student then got a refresher course on how do logarithms mean and what the concept of half-life is. It was good that she understood the material prior to the exam on Tuesday, as opposed to merely doing the problems in the book which would be the minimal effort. Then, we applied Kepler's law and Newton's law together with the law of conservation of momentum to compare the orbit of a planet with different masses on the back basis of Doppler's shift. Overall, we felt this was a constructive tutoring session in preparation for her exams in the upcoming week."
"We first went through the student's exam that he took for this session. He scored a little lower than usual, so a large focus of today was on slowing down so that he doesn't make small, avoidable mistakes. After going through this test, I had him go through another one, carefully, 15 problems at a time. He did much better."
"We reviewed the laboratory assignment the student got last week. We went over his results and he answered the post lab questions afterwards. We also reviewed the concepts of the lab, namely chemical equilibrium. He seemed to have a good grasp of the material."
