Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We had late night session in preparation for the student's last chapter test of the year. The material was about the Cold War and focused primarily on the regimes of the all the Russian leaders during the period. He was allowed to make a flashcard as a study tool to use on the test, so we put as much information as possible onto the card. This was our last session before beginning review for the AP test."
"We started off by reviewing the unknown terms from last time. The student and I then discussed a plan of attack going forward including using an app to review the subject, and the two essays I assigned him (one rough draft and one outline). We then proceeded as last time with IDs and then general reviews. At the end of the first chapter we verbally talked through an essay again. We then did multiple choice questions at the end of each chapters."
"We used a sample essay to practice the process of writing an effective essay. We used a question on the same time period she will be writing on, and used it as an example of how to gather evidence, come up with a thesis, and organize the essay in the type of logical fashion that teachers look for."
"The student and I worked on a textbook packet for European history. There were no scores to note, no extra practice necessary, and no concerns from this session."
"Today was my first session with the student. We reviewed the Age of Absolutism in Europe. She knew exactly what she wanted to review, and she recalled much information on her own. She seemed to be most concerned with retaining vast amounts of information, so that is what we will focus on in future sessions."
"We went rapid-fire through multiple choice review questions, hitting highlights of all major time periods and geographic areas. I could tell that the specific subjects we had talked in depth about in the past had stuck with the student. He did very well on those questions. Hopefully, he sees a high percentage of topics we were able to cover on the exam."
