Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today I sat in on a parent teacher meeting between the student's dad and his math teacher. We discussed his strengths and weaknesses in the course. His teacher suggested that he take more time practicing problems at home in order to understand the importance of the concepts he learns in class. She also recommended going over homework more slowly and constantly checking his work. We resolved to make sure that every graded paper will be placed in his binder. After this helpful meeting, I spent 20 minutes or so reviewing the rest of his final science exam from last semester. We discussed each question he got wrong and why he got it wrong. He made several errors in interpreting images/data as well as reading the questions and answer choices properly. In order to make sure we cover everything in detail for this semester, he will have his book every day, and I will encourage him to write notes covering important classroom material so that he knows everything he will be responsible for by exam time."
"We had a very good session. We reviewed his math homework on coordinate planes and functions, his science homework on weathering effects, and worked on a life timeline for social studies. He knew the material very well. For the last half hour we reviewed Spanish. He was able to answer all of the questions correctly but had a little trouble concentrating."
"Today, we worked on a paper for Orchestra. This is the description competition assignment, similar to last year. She was still working on the draft today, so we focused on fleshing out her ideas. She will complete it tomorrow in class (I asked her to make sure it is within the guidelines and to refine the idea a bit more). We will meet tomorrow to revise it for the final draft."
"We went over his reading log, spelling and vocabulary. We also started going over geography and he was able to pinpoint the coordinates of most cities."
"Today the student worked on various homework assignments from her day at school. She worked through math conversion problems, a science methods worksheet, social studies worksheet, and began vocab review for her quiz tomorrow. She finished most of the assignments and we discussed what needed to be done to finish the others. She was working on a project as I left. I will be looking for a grade on quizzes in vocab and math when I return Wednesday."
"We covered solving word problems utilizing working backwards, writing equations, and guess and check methods. The student did well with the methods used to solve word problems. She had a positive attitude towards the material covered. We also covered the book "The Meanest Doll in the World." She did well with comprehending the material in the book. This was a productive session."
