Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered the math and writing sections of the SAT in this session. With regard to math, he has the ability to answer all of the questions correctly. We are getting to a point, where we're starting to see patterns in the types of questions that are on the test, and I think he will continue to improve with more practice. With regard to writing, we also continue to work on learning and applying the grammar rules. He is improving in this section (and I think this is the best section for improving performance). He is taking the SAT on Saturday, and I believe that we will be continuing our sessions after that. I asked that Parker purchase a new SAT book since he has completed his current practice book. (I think we will be able to start over at the beginning without a problem.)"
"The student and I went through the grammar and essay portions of the writing test today. We looked at common grammar errors and how to correct them, as well as how to plan and compose an essay. I asked him to continue looking at grammar flashcards for next time."
"We reviewed SAT math homework. The student showed clear improvement and was able to attempt even the hardest problems. We focused the lesson on practicing SAT math and working through as much material as possible in order to learn specific concepts."
"The student and I reviewed a few sections before her SAT this Saturday. She did really well, and her only mistakes were small errors she caught on her own when we went over it! We went over some math problems that weren't multiple choice and she had no problems."
"The student is taking the SAT on Saturday. He's made massive improvement in all three SAT subjects over the last couple months, and I believe he will pull off a solid performance with the SAT this weekend. He's both absorbed and perfected new concepts in both math and grammar, and I think he will also see his new abilities and knowledge reflected in his schoolwork over the rest of his school term. He is a great friendly kid with a sense of humor and a very quick learner, and I hope to work with him again!"
"First, we went over some reading passages - a couple short ones, then a few longer ones, as well. We spend the second hour discussing essay writing strategies and practicing essay planning and organization."
"The student and I began by reviewing her math homework. She is doing a great job on the math section so far and had already improvised noticeably. Next, we discussed the other sections of the exam in preparation for her first time taking the exam this coming Saturday. For homework, she will complete some additional math practice sections if she has the time."
"The student wrote a practice essay before this session, which we went over together. Besides a couple of grammar and clarity issues, her essay was very persuasive and well-organized. We also looked at some vocab, critical reading, and math questions, almost all of which she answered correctly. She is definitely ready for the SAT!"
"The student practiced several math sections timed today, and we reviewed her answers and pacing strategies. She is doing very well at choosing which problems to focus on, eliminating answers even if she cannot solve a problem, and pacing herself in general. She improved with each section this session. This pattern happened last week as well, so I suggested that on the test date she review some of her math notes before going to the test in order to "warm up" her brain."
"Strategized with the student on how he should approach the Critical Reading section. We made a tally of the types of passage based reading questions he got wrong in the previous few sections, and did some spot-practicing for those types of questions."
"The student and I started with math. We did another timed math section. He works very rapidly, so I reassured him that he can handle this test. It will help him a lot if he is able to relax and not let skipped problems bother him; he'll have a chance to work them out later. We talked about general test day strategies, mainly staying relaxed and getting plenty of rest beforehand."
"The student and I reviewed her last practice test today. I strongly recommend she get a good night's sleep before the actual SAT exam. I gave her some general pointers for help tackling each section and we discussed scoring. I feel she is ready and wish her all the best on exam day!"
