"The student and I worked on right triangle trigonometry. We reviewed 2 homework worksheets. The student feels pretty confident with this material."
"Today we went through the student's practice test regarding logarithmic and exponential functions to prepare for her test on Tuesday. She did well identifying what rules to use in each question. I quizzed her on the general form of the rules as we got to them during the course of our session. She did very well identifying the general form and then applying it to the problem. Sometimes with very long derivatives that are using multiple rules, she will lose a negative, which makes the final answer incorrect. I advised her on making liberal use of brackets to keep sections of the problem together so she could easily see where negatives need to be distributed. She did struggle a bit with finding the derivative for one equation of the form y=p^x, but that was only because she wasn't sure on the derivative rule for that. We reviewed the rule, and I advised her to make sure she studied that rule again. In general, she did well, and she is going to work through additional homework problems to help study for her exam."
"The student had homework that covered solving problems using trig identities. He has a pretty good grasp on the concepts and seems to know the equations pretty well."
"Today we went over sinusoidal functions and their equations. The student seemed to struggle with shifting the origin around using the designated variables C and D. By the end of the session she was able to shift the origin around to assign different names for the same function."
"The student and I continued with polynomials. This time around we focused on finding local extrema both visually and through algebraic methods. She had no clue how to achieve maximums and minimums besides the vertex. I gave her a quick introduction into derivatives and how they can be applied. After the quick lesson, she had no problem getting past questions. She finished the session going through homework problems."
"In this session, the student and I worked through her homework set involving matrices (traits, operations, multiplication). She had a very good understanding of the material and just needed some small review of minor concepts. On a note of progress, she earned an A- on her last test!! Way to go!"
