Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For our last session, we went through a number of practice questions working through multiple ways to solve them. I also covered some multiple choice test taking strategies that would help if the student became stuck."
"Finished with Algebra. Worked on solving quadratics by factorization, completing the square, and quadratic equation. Will begin Geometry next session."
"The student and I met on the 19th. We worked through more algebra worksheets, specifically dealing with distributive properties and simplifying and solving equations. This Wednesday we will work on graphing equations and solving more advanced expressions."
"The student's homework for the day was to solve rational equations that involved multiplication and division. Much like her last few homework assignments, she did well conceptually and just needed help looking for simplifications and shortcuts. She showed improvement from our previous session. Changing from addition/subtraction to multiplication/division seemed to throw her off a bit. After looking at a few problems and seeing the process was essentially the same except for the operation that was used to combine terms, she did much better. By the time she had finished her assigned problems and extra-challenge problems, she was doing the work with almost no assistance from me and seemed much more confident."
"During our last session together, the student and I reviewed for her final exam. The student feels confident with the material, especially after scoring a perfect score on her most recent quiz."
"The student had an upcoming unit test, so we spent this session continuing to work through his review packet on factoring quadratics and interpreting data sets statistically. Last session we had gone over the fundamentals of factoring, and this time we worked on more complex problems. He did a great job working through these and only needed help when we got to problems involving the quadratic formula. After walking him through a problem, he was able to recall this concept and got much better at it after a few problems. He was pretty solid on the statistical problems apart from a few questions he had about finding outliers and labeling histograms. We reviewed scatterplots and correlation coefficients, and he had a good grasp on this material. He plans on finishing up the review packet before his test on Monday in order to have the material fresh in his mind."
