Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on mark-up of "Oral Health Care Providers Knowledge and Attitudes about IPV - jw markup" - 15 pages of text sent in advance and reviewed before our session. The student shared a copy of the article she got published in the American Dental Health Association magazine, which is one of the items we worked on."
"Today we spent quite a bit of time figuring out which articles he would be most successful with in writing his final research paper."
"He finally received a grade on one of his papers " an 82 on "Fight the Power." We looked it over, and I plan to make corrections Wednesday and have him resubmit it. On Tuesday, he also finished writing the fairy tale paper. I asked him to prepare a works cited for Wednesday."
"The student had watched the movie Flight for her ethics class and I helped her write her response paper. We worked to answer the questions from the assignment; and to think about the ways that the movie fit with the topics that she has been learning and discussing in the class. She was able to put the paper together and finish it up very well!"
"We reviewed parts of speech (verb, noun, preposition, etc.) and then we looked at subordinate and insubordinate clauses. We looked at her work from the previous time and did some editing. We found out that she was not putting commas after subordinate clauses at the beginning of the sentence. I think that ultimately, learning more grammar will be helpful in getting her to begin to think -- why -- and when should I use a comma. Because of her curiosity, we also went over colons and semicolons. Next week I will revisit the subordinate and insubordinate clauses, and focus on punctuation, and why it makes sense not only visually, but grammatically."
"The student and I revised an allegory that he is writing. We then worked through some sample multiple-choice questions on reading comprehension for the AP exam. The student was quite good at the problems and had a few questions about the gist of the author's main argument."
