Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the first two declensions and conjugations in the primary tenses. Then we covered the 3rd declension and conjugation. We then reviewed the student's history handout. Lastly, we did some English-Latin translation to help cement grammatical forms and give him a sense of the way in which cases and inflected verb forms are used in Latin. He is a receptive student and is learning fast. I gave him some homework study and a short translation. I also encouraged him to spend time every day memorizing forms. Daily consistency is more important than long periods of study!"
"Today, we began the Latin textbook, focusing on Chapter 1 (1st and 2nd conjugation verbs). For at-home work, I recommend: (1) studying all Chapter 1 vocabulary, including verb principal parts, and (2) reading through Chapter 2. For additional practice, writing out verb charts with different verbs from the vocabulary list could be helpful."
"We began this session by reviewing our flashcards on commonly used prepositions and conjunctions. I will be adding to this list next week with vocabulary from the student's last chapter of the year. We continued our session by reviewing the formation of the perfect active and perfect passive tenses followed by a series of conjugated verb forms and having him identify their person, number, tense and voice. I am continually impressed with how well the student handles these new verb forms in addition to retaining his knowledge of earlier tenses and conjugations. We also practiced a sight translation about the Kings of Rome. The student continues to be more confident with his Latin translation in addition to showing greater ease with word order. We finished the session by reviewing the 1st and 2nd person pronoun forms both by having him fill in their respective charts and having him identify the case of a given pronoun when used in a Latin sentence. The student should be well-prepared for his quiz tomorrow and I look forward to meeting with him next week!"
