Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed exercises on neurospora cell division, recombination, gene mapping and chromosomal abnormalities."
"Today was the student's fourth session and he worked on World Geography, Biology, and Algebra assignments. He has many assignments to complete each time I visit. I believe he is becoming more organized and responsible for completing his work. He said he made an 85 on his Spanish test and he is passing all his classes this third six weeks except for one. He said he has a 63 average in that class. I think he struggles with keeping up with all his work. He is a hard worker, but I think he gets behind and has to work harder to stay focused and on track with all his assignments. I believe he is progressing and improving and he feels more confident in his abilities. Today in World Geography we discussed the types of governments and their economies: monarchy, communism, dictatorship, and free market. He ordered the 4 economies from least to greatest government involvement. We worked on The Water Cycle, The Carbon Cycle, and the Nitrogen Cycle by identifying where each aspect of the cycle occurs. We started on finishing his Algebra assignment where he had to substitute a specific value for the variable x and answer the questions accordingly."
"We managed mitosis and cytokinesis today. Apparently, the recent exam over photosynthesis/ cellular respiration went pretty well (or at least it felt good). The student seems quite inquisitive and asks questions freely, making quick connections in the material."
"During our session today the student and I reviewed photosynthesis, the Calvin cycle, and cellular respiration. Initially the material was confusing because so many terms were covered at once. We took each step-by-step using videos, notes from class, and her textbook. The student had a great attitude during the session and asked questions to further clarify terms and processes. I advised the student to review the videos and notes daily until her quiz on Friday. We are hoping to have a strong finish for the second semester."
"Started covering unit 3 material including oncology, microbiome biology, metagenetic analysis, tumor suppressors, and growth factor pathways. Reviewed lecture slides and notes, and created sample quiz/exam questions for practice."
"The student has a biology test tomorrow covering comparative anatomy and physiology. First, we reviewed the last chapter covering the endocrine and excretory systems. Then she had a few questions prepared with regards to the chapters that we had previously covered. The thing that needed help was the mechanics of the circulatory system with a 4-chambered heart, so we spent a good 20 minutes on that. I drew some lovely diagrams and sent her the links to a few videos. She finished her list of questions, scanned through her notes one last time, and then was good to go. She has a lot of flashcards and memorizing to do tonight because there is a lot of vocabulary and diagrams with this section."
