Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the student's homework, which involved using the commutative property and associative property of addition with fractions. He did very well with this and actually showed improvement in finding least common denominators and simplifying his fractions. There was still some difficulties due to his multiplication facts. We practiced with flashcards and focused more on the facts that he is having the most trouble with. We also played a dice game where he rolled the dice (1-9) and would multiply the numbers. He really liked this and could solve these much faster than with the flashcards. I left the dice with him and told him to focus his multiplication practice using these."
"In math, we completed multistep problems, interpreted graphs, and rounded according to place value (up to ten thousands). I reminded the student to always double check work when completing problems. We completed the Reading log with questions for the author, creating story titles, and making character drawings. I have encouraged the student to make note of pauses (commas, semicolons, periods) in reading."
"We used the positive reinforcement strategy throughout the session. We also worked on the "I do, we do, you do" model during math. We then used models to help us answer word problem (with fractions) questions. We also reviewed the student's spelling test."
"The student had homework requiring him to solve several long division problems. We simply used his homework problems to review the steps of long division. He does very well with guidance and prompting. He is going to need consistent daily practice in order to ingrain these steps in his brain. I asked him to work on the problems I assigned him at the end of our previous session for practice."
"We worked on converting fractions to decimals with denominators of 10,100, and 1000. The student really caught on and enjoyed the feeling of success! We also read a persuasive passage on manatees. He has excellent comprehension skills when reading directly from the text."
"We continued our work in long division, identifying and measuring angles with a protractor and plotting / identifying points on a coordinate grid. The student (as always) was super pumped to work! I provided her with a checklist and graph paper to help her organize her thoughts for long division, and it seemed to help."
