Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's homework for Wednesday was to read for 20 minutes. We first reviewed his memory verse, followed by completing a multiplication review of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 times tables in circle format. I reviewed his reading log, and he had read 6 hours and 11 minutes towards his reading goal of 8 hours for the Book it program. He read the 1st 45 minutes from IFunny, and I quizzed him on vocabulary and character traits. At the end of the 45 minutes, he completed for me a directional maze. He then read 28 minutes, to bring the total number of minutes that he needs for his goal to 46 minutes. The next tutoring session is scheduled for Monday."
"The student worked on reading comprehension, grammar, and Math. In reading comprehension, she read a 2nd grade level passage and answered comprehension questions. I reminded her to use the 'look for evidence' in the passage as she answers comprehension questions. In grammar, she worked on brainstorming adjectives for the nouns she listed in the previous session. In Math, she worked on addition fluency and number sense."
"The student and I reviewed previous math concepts. After a discussion with his mom, we are choosing to focus on his reading comprehension skills. After a quick math review and introduction to a new math concept, we worked on his reading comprehension. He is struggling a bit with instant recall of facts; however, after some guiding questions, he was able to recall more."
"Today, we worked on some reading skills. We completed a few stories in a workbook. After this, I also had the student complete a writing activity and asked her some comprehension questions. Overall, she did a great job during this session."
"I didn't know that the student wrote a street newspaper for the neighborhood with her friends. It's an excellent and creative way for a free write. I needed to clean up the grammar and comma placement a little. She worked really fast on the math word problems, but she got a little mixed up on labeling her answers (i.e.. 45 penguins, 5 people). She was very focused today. She is getting better at math execution, but we need to work on fixing written grammar."
"The student started with his math homework which was multiplying 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. We used base ten blocks to represent the 2 digit numbers and did repeated addition. Next, we practiced his multiplication facts."
