Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished our discussion of the biological concepts today. We started by reviewing the digestive system, tracking the path food takes through the GI tract and the path each type of molecule takes. We transitioned into the respiratory system, discussing the mechanics behind breathing and the interactions on a molecular scale involving hemoglobin, alveoli, and diffusion. Next we went over the muscular and skeletal systems, focusing on different types of muscle (skeletal, cardiac, and smooth) plus bone structure and maintenance."
"Today we covered introductory strategies on how to approach studying for the MCAT exam with only 6 weeks until the exam date. We also began going over the reading comprehension section of the exam and showed the student how to begin approaching these passages and the following questions. I gave him a schedule of practice exams, and study chapters to complete for this coming week. I asked him to take the initial diagnostic test prior to our meeting which he did. Hoping that the full practice tests from this week will give me a better indication of what areas need more pointed attention in our next session."
"During our session today, we reviewed the student's most recent practice test. We reviewed all missed questions in physical sciences, two passages in VR, and most of the biological section. We emphasized getting herself in the best position emotionally before her exam. We will meet again tomorrow where we will do more review of the passages I have been sending her."
"The student and I spent this session reviewing her most recent practice test. Her score went up a good few points, which is great that she is showing improvement. Going through the physical sciences section we went through all the passages and questions that gave her challenges. I provided very little guidance in re-doing these problems and she was able to answer most of them correctly with the correct reasoning."
"The student and I reviewed her most recent practice exam, addressing lingering questions that she had. We also used this review as an opportunity to review stoichiometry problems (converting between substances, finding limiting reagents, etc.). Afterwards, we continued our review of biology topics, particularly reproduction and development."
"The student and I continued to cover the geometry questions from the quant guide. We finished the problem solving and 3/4 of the data sufficiency questions. Next session we will finish the DS geometry questions from this book. I assigned her critical reasoning 10. She scored perfectly on CR 9, so it seems like she has improved her approach to these questions. She is also going to take her final practice exam soon."
