Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went through section 6.4 and worked on problems containing circles and trig functions. We practiced on problems that gave the student the most problems to ensure that he became more comfortable."
"We went over polar equations. We focused on rewriting them as rectangular equations using trig identities and rewriting rectangular equations as polar equations."
"We analyzed the unit circle and covered its underlining fundamental trigonometric and radian principles. Our main focus was to understand the patterns that construct the unit circle and to connect the trigonometric functions that piece together the unit circle. Examining the foundations of the unit circle gave way to reinforcing the principles of right-triangle trigonometry, which is the main focus of pre-calculus. The student demonstrated a firm understanding of these techniques and has shown a strong ability to quickly learn and adapt to new information. I verbally quizzed him on his ability to pinpoint locations on the unit circle by using a plethora of input values, testing his knowledge of converting radians or degrees into coordinate points. I assigned him to read the next two sections of Chapter 4."
"The student and I had a great session. We talked mostly about sequences and series. We worked through several practice problems together. He has a pretty good grasp of the concepts of the section; however, he can get a little ahead of himself and make errors by not thinking completely through a problem. He needs to make sure to fully understand how series works so that he can do well on future quizzes and tests."
"Today, we discussed Law of Sines and Law of Cosines. The student seemed to have a pretty good understanding. The thing she seemed to struggle with the most was identifying when to use Law of Sines versus when to use Law of Cosines. However, we cleared that up and reinforced the concept. She had a very positive attitude throughout the session. I did not leave her with any extra practice - she said she felt ready for tomorrow's quiz."
"The student and I spent the session working on the problems of a recent quiz she had. The quiz was on the sum and difference identities in trigonometry. Using identities and working through trig problems is giving her trouble, so a good amount of today's session was focused on trying to find ways for her to break down problems so she can apply the appropriate identity correctly as well as determine when she had to use an identity vs. when she could just use algebra. I recommended that she spend additional time practicing similar problems tonight to prepare for her upcoming test. I also suggested that as she works on problems she keep the detailed solution to the ones we solved today at hand as a reference to help her solve these new problems."
